The Role

Tamarack is seeking a Senior Geologist to generate and advance development and exploration opportunities across our core areas and emerging plays. The successful candidate will combine strong regional interpretation and opportunity-generation skills with practical experience in well planning, drilling execution, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build regional geological frameworks and identify play extensions, step-outs, bypassed intervals, and emerging opportunities.
  • Integrate geological, geophysical, petrophysical, engineering, land, production, and economic data to evaluate reservoir potential.
  • Assess geological risk, uncertainty, resource potential, commerciality, and expected value.
  • Build and maintain a risked inventory of exploration and development opportunities.
  • Work with Land and Commercial teams to support acreage strategy, acquisitions, dispositions, farm-ins, and technical due diligence.
  • Monitor competitor activity, land transactions, industry results, and emerging play trends.
  • Collaborate with reservoir, production, drilling, completions, operations, and facilities teams on well planning, opportunity ranking, forecasting, budgeting, and AFE preparation.
  • Provide technical direction to Operations Geologists during drilling programs and lead post-well evaluations.
  • Maintain high-quality geological data, interpretations, mapping, and technical workflows.
  • Present technical interpretations, risks, and recommendations clearly to multidisciplinary teams and leadership.
  • Participate in peer reviews, technical knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive oil and gas geoscience experience.
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Geoscientist with APEGA.
  • Demonstrated experience generating and maturing exploration and development opportunities.
  • Strong regional interpretation, subsurface mapping, reservoir characterization, geological risking, and volumetric assessment skills.
  • Experience integrating geological, geophysical, engineering, land, production, and economic information.
  • Strong communication, project management, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Experience with heavy-oil, conventional, or thermal reservoirs is an asset.
  • Exposure to open-hole multilateral planning and drilling is an asset.
  • Experience with geoSCOUT and relevant geological interpretation and mapping applications.
