POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Project Manager is a senior project delivery leader responsible for the successful execution of complex utility, energy, and infrastructure projects across all phases of delivery. This role provides leadership from early contractor involvement (ECI), pre-construction planning, engineering and procurement coordination, through construction execution, commissioning, and project closeout.

The Senior Project Manager oversees large-scale or strategically significant projects and serves as the primary point of accountability for project performance across safety, schedule, quality, cost, risk, and client satisfaction. Working closely with engineering, procurement, construction, project controls, and field leadership teams, the Senior Project Manager ensures alignment throughout the project lifecycle and drives successful project outcomes.

This role requires strong commercial acumen, advanced stakeholder management skills, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through complex project environments.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Leadership & Delivery Strategy

  • Lead projects from early planning and development through execution and final turnover.
  • Develop and implement project execution strategies, including delivery methodology, work packaging, resource planning, and risk management.
  • Provide leadership during pre-construction activities, including constructability reviews, execution planning, and project readiness assessments.
  • Ensure project objectives are achieved while maintaining alignment with client expectations, contractual obligations, and business goals.
  • Mentor and support Project Managers, Construction Supervisors, and other project team members.

Pre-Construction Planning

  • Participate in project development activities including estimating support, constructability reviews, schedule development, and risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with clients, engineering teams, and key stakeholders to optimize project execution strategies and identify opportunities for value creation.
  • Support procurement planning, contracting strategies, and long-lead material identification.
  • Lead project planning efforts to ensure seamless transition from pre-construction into execution.

Engineering, Procurement & Construction Integration

  • Provide leadership and coordination across engineering, procurement, and construction functions.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables, procurement activities, and construction sequencing remain aligned throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage critical project interfaces and resolve design, procurement, and execution challenges.
  • Support constructability reviews, design optimization initiatives, and field-driven engineering solutions.

Commercial Management & Financial Performance

  • Maintain overall accountability for project budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and financial performance.
  • Lead contract administration, change management, claims management, and commercial negotiations.
  • Monitor project performance against established financial objectives and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks while maximizing opportunities to improve project outcomes.

Safety, Quality & Operational Excellence

  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company, client, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead project teams in the proactive identification and mitigation of safety, environmental, and operational risks.
  • Ensure quality management systems, inspection and test plans (ITPs), turnover documentation, and project controls processes are effectively implemented.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and lessons learned throughout project delivery.

Stakeholder & Client Leadership

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, Indigenous partners, regulators, consultants, and key project stakeholders.
  • Lead executive-level project reviews, progress meetings, and strategic planning discussions.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while proactively managing expectations and resolving issues.
  • Facilitate communication and alignment across engineering, procurement, project controls, and field execution teams.

Project Controls & Reporting

  • Oversee project schedules, performance metrics, forecasting, and reporting activities.
  • Ensure project controls systems accurately reflect project status, risks, opportunities, and resource requirements.
  • Lead schedule recovery planning and mitigation strategies when required.
  • Review and approve key project reporting deliverables for both internal and external stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • 10–15+ years of progressive project management experience within utility, power, infrastructure, industrial, or EPC construction environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects through both ECI/pre-construction and EPC/construction execution phases.
  • Proven success delivering large-scale, multi-discipline utility, transmission, distribution, substation, renewable energy, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery models, engineering interfaces, procurement processes, contract management, and construction execution.
  • Experience managing project teams, subcontractors, consultants, and client relationships within complex project environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of project controls, cost management, forecasting, scheduling, and risk management principles.
  • Proficient in Procore, SAP, Primavera P6, MS Project, and other project management systems.
  • Diploma or degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • PMP, P.Eng., CET, Gold Seal, or equivalent designation considered an asset.
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Willingness to travel and support projects at active construction and remote project sites as required.

Pay: From $120,000.00 per year
