Senior Storage Infrastructure Specialist (Secret Cleared)

Position Type: Contract (Long-term, Multi-year vehicle)

Location: Ottawa, ON (100% Onsite)

Hourly Rate: Highly Competitive / Enterprise Scale

Position Overview

On behalf of our premier Government of Canada client , we are seeking a senior, hands-on Storage Infrastructure Specialist to join a long-term project maintaining and protecting critical networks.

If you are a high-level technical SME who loves to roll up your sleeves, solve complex system issues, and manage large-scale storage hardware ecosystems, this role is for you. This is a stable, multi-year operational and implementation mandate supporting an infrastructure of over 5,000 users. It focuses deeply on maintaining existing high-availability systems and executing robust disaster recovery procedures rather than purely theoretical architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, troubleshoot, and optimize the organization's enterprise storage area network (SAN) infrastructure to ensure high data quality and 24/7 availability.
  • Provide advanced tier 3/4 operational support to solve technical storage and connectivity problems as they arise.
  • Execute and continuously refine capacity planning, backup infrastructure, and restore procedures.
  • Implement and oversee data disaster recovery (DR) blueprints and business continuity plans.
  • Maintain technical documentation, configuration standards, and lifecycle updates across enterprise servers and storage arrays.

Mandatory "Gatekeeper" Requirements

To be successfully considered for this defense mandate, candidates must satisfy all of the following compliance criteria:

  • Security Clearance: Must hold an active, valid Government of Canada Secret clearance (Reliability status will not suffice).
  • Location: Must be willing and able to work 100% onsite in Ottawa due to secure data handling protocols.
  • Classified Networks: Minimum of 5 years of documented experience within the last 10 years working directly with classified networks.
  • Security Caveats: Proven hands-on history handling networks with strict international release caveats (e.g., Secret Five-Eyes / FVEY, NATO Secret, or Secret CAN/US).
  • Seniority: At least 10 years of professional experience operating as a Storage Specialist or Infrastructure Architect for secure or command-and-control IT ecosystems.

Technical & Environment Match

  • Core Storage Platforms: Elite, deep operational proficiency with Hitachi platforms and Brocade switches is highly prioritized. Additional platform experience with NetApp, Dell/EMC, or HP is an asset.
  • Operating Systems: Proven lifecycle experience (installation, patching, troubleshooting, administration) across Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2019 environments.
  • Scale: Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting massive enterprise IT infrastructures servicing at least 5,000+ users.
  • Mindset: Extreme autonomy; ability to walk into a complex, fast-moving environment, reverse-engineer undocumented configurations, and establish immediate stability.

Formal Education (Must meet one of the following):

  • A valid University Degree in an IT-related discipline.
  • A valid College Diploma in an IT discipline plus 10+ years of storage experience.
  • A minimum of 15 years of direct experience as a specialized Storage Architect/Specialist.
  • An active Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) Certified Storage Networking Expert (SCSN-E) credential.

Pay: $100.00-$130.00 per hour
