Full job description

Job Opportunity: Controller / Senior Accountant

Location: St. Albert, AB (Head Office) Type: Permanent, Full-Time Industry: HVAC, Refrigeration & Food Equipment Service

About Us

At Techni-Craft, we are a leading multi-branch service operation dedicated to excellence in HVAC, refrigeration, and food equipment service across Western Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan). We pride ourselves on our technical expertise and our commitment to serving our clients with integrity. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a key individual to join our leadership team and help steward our financial and operational success.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a dedicated Controller / Senior Accountant who is seeking a long-term professional home. This is not just another job; this is a career-defining role. As our company President and CFO looks toward retirement, we are seeking a successor who wants to build a long-term future with us. If you are a high-achiever, value stability, and are looking for a role where you can truly "own" the results, we want to hear from you.

What You Will Do

You will lead our financial and administrative functions, acting as a key member of our Leadership Team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Financial Leadership: Prepare monthly financial statements and oversee the year-end process in collaboration with external accounting firms.
  • Team Management: Provide mentorship and oversight to our accounting team (AR, AP, and Billers).
  • Operational Oversight: Manage human resources, employee benefits, and insurance requirements (fleet/property). Coordinate with IT providers and fleet suppliers.
  • Compliance & Reporting: Handle monthly tax filings (GST, PST) and ensure rigorous compliance.
  • ERP Optimization: Become the expert on our ERP system. You will implement new processes and procedures, and develop/monitor analytics across Service, Purchasing, Inventory, Billing, and Project Management modules.
  • Strategic Input: Attend weekly Leadership Team meetings to drive business decisions.

What You Bring

  • Education: Business Administration diploma (Accounting Major) or Accounting Certificate/Diploma. A CPA, CMA, or CGA designation is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of full-cycle accounting experience and at least 5 years of experience managing an accounting team.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint).
  • ERP & Industry Knowledge: Experience in project/entity accounting (WIP reporting) is a significant benefit. Experience with Sampro software and vendor portals (e.g., Nuvolo, Corrigo Pro) is highly preferred.
  • Soft Skills: You are easy-going, ethically driven, and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment. You enjoy "wearing multiple hats" and are eager to take on challenges beyond just the books.
  • Availability: Ability to travel occasionally to our other branch locations or to industry conferences.

Why Join Techni-Craft?

We believe in investing in our people. We offer a competitive package designed for a long-term partner:

  • Competitive Compensation: $80,000 – $100,000 annually (based on experience), with clear potential for earnings growth.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Full health and dental coverage, including vision care.
  • Wellness: Health Care Spending Account.
  • Security: Life insurance, Short and Long-Term Disability insurance, and an RRSP employer matching program.
  • Work-Life Balance: Additional personal bonus days.
  • Culture: A stable, fast-growing company where your contributions are recognized and rewarded.
