Security & Structured Wiring Project Manager

Position Summary

The Security & Structured Wiring Project Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of low-voltage infrastructure projects including electronic security systems and structured cabling installations. The role manages projects from pre-construction through commissioning and closeout, ensuring delivery on time, within scope, and within budget while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Projects may include access control, video surveillance (CCTV), intrusion detection, intercom systems, and structured cabling systems such as Cat6/Cat6A, fiber optic backbone, data center connectivity, and enterprise network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Delivery

  • Manage multiple security and structured cabling projects simultaneously.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Coordinate project activities with clients, general contractors, consultants, IT teams, vendors, and internal technicians.
  • Lead project kickoff meetings and maintain communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively address risks, delays, and scope changes.
  • Ensure projects meet contractual requirements, technical specifications, and industry standards.
  • Manage project documentation including submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, change orders, and as-built documentation.
  • Coordinate procurement and material delivery to support construction schedules.

Technical Coordination & System Oversight

  • Review system designs and construction drawings for:

· Access control systems (readers, controllers, door hardware integration)

· CCTV / video surveillance systems (IP cameras, NVR/VMS platforms)

· Intrusion detection systems

· Intercom and communication systems

· Structured cabling systems (Cat6/Cat6A copper and fiber backbone)

  • Ensure compliance with structured cabling standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI where applicable).
  • Coordinate cable installation, termination, labeling, and testing.
  • Oversee system configuration, testing, certification, and commissioning.
  • Coordinate integration between security systems and client IT infrastructure.

Construction & Field Coordination

  • Supervise field supervisors, technicians, and subcontractors during installation activities.
  • Coordinate site readiness with general contractors and other trades.
  • Ensure installations comply with construction drawings, engineering specifications, and industry standards.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify workmanship and installation quality.
  • Coordinate system commissioning, testing, and client acceptance.
  • Ensure accurate as-built drawings and system documentation are completed.

Financial & Contract Management

  • Manage project budgets, cost tracking, and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor labor productivity and material usage.
  • Review subcontractor invoices and approve progress billing.
  • Manage change orders and scope adjustments.
  • Support project billing and documentation required by accounting.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and contractors.
  • Provide regular project updates regarding schedule, budget, and milestones.
  • Identify opportunities for additional services or system expansions.
  • Ensure successful project turnover and client satisfaction.

Safety & Quality Management

  • Promote and enforce company safety policies and site safety procedures.
  • Conduct safety briefings and ensure technicians follow safe work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with construction safety standards and site requirements.
  • Maintain quality control standards across all installations.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in security systems or structured cabling installation.
  • 3+ years of project management experience in low-voltage systems.
  • Strong knowledge of access control, CCTV/video surveillance, and structured cabling systems.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, riser diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Experience managing construction schedules, project budgets, and subcontractors.
  • Familiarity with structured cabling standards (TIA/EIA) and network infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Procore, Smartsheet).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.

Preferred

  • PMP certification.
  • Manufacturer certifications such as Genetec, LenelS2, Avigilon, or Milestone.
  • BICSI certification (RCDD or Technician).
  • Experience working in commercial construction or enterprise environments.
  • Experience coordinating with IT teams and network infrastructure deployments.

Work Environment

  • Combination of office work and active construction job sites.
  • Regular travel to local or regional project locations.
  • Work may involve coordination with union construction crews and contractors.
