Scheffer Andrew Ltd. is a well-established, medium-sized engineering and planning consulting firm with nearly 50 years of experience serving Western Canada--primarily Alberta. We specialize in municipal infrastructure, land development, and transportation engineering. Our collaborative team environment and commitment to quality design have earned us long-standing relationships with public and private sector clients.

We are currently seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Edmonton finance team. This role is ideal for growing your skills and experience in a full cycle accounting role. If you're looking for an accounting role that blends technical expertise, financial reporting, and mentorship, this is your opportunity.

Duties of this position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with ASPE.
  • Manage full-cycle accounting including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Oversee project/job costing, WIP (work-in-progress) schedules, and revenue recognition for engineering projects.
  • Prepare and analyze budget-to-actual variance reports for project managers and leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with GST/HST filings, payroll remittances, and other statutory requirements.
  • Support external accountants.
  • Assist with cash flow forecasting and working capital management.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to other accounting staff
  • Assist with year-end T4/T5 preparation and other regulatory filings specific to Alberta/Canada.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Actively enrolled in the CPA PEP program with relevant experience would be an asset.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within engineering, construction, or professional services.
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and experience with project management software.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with project-based accounting, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments.
  • Ability to work on your own and in a team setting with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
