About SportsPay
SportsPay is a Canadian-owned payment facilitator proudly serving the amateur sports community. With 40% year-over-year growth over the past two years, we're scaling fast – and as a regulated payments business, we need someone sharp to stay on top of our finances and compliance and keep our growth built on a rock-solid foundation.
The Role
This role owns our finance and regulatory compliance functions day-to-day, reporting directly to senior leadership. As a Canadian payment facilitator, compliance isn't a back-office afterthought for us – it's core to the business. You will:
- Act as our designated AML Compliance Officer (under the PCMLTFA) and the individual accountable for our RPAA obligations
- Own all company policies – maintain a central, version-controlled library, review and refresh policies on a regular schedule (and whenever regulations or operations change), and ensure they're approved, communicated, and consistently followed across the business
- Own and administer our AML/CTF compliance program, including policies, procedures, risk assessments, and ongoing monitoring
- Lead regulatory reporting to FINTRAC (LCTRs, EFTRs, STRs) – accurate, complete, and on time
- Own our obligations under the Retail Payment Activities Act (RPAA) – maintain Bank of Canada registration, keep our operational risk management, incident response, and end-user fund safeguarding frameworks current, and file the annual report on time
- Design and oversee risk and compliance controls across the full payment lifecycle – not just KYC / CDD / EDD at merchant onboarding and underwriting, but ongoing transaction monitoring, settlement, and funding/payouts – balancing risk control with operational efficiency
- Manage sanctions screening and escalation of higher-risk clients and transactions
- Maintain PCI-DSS compliance and adherence to card network rules (Visa, Mastercard) and sponsor-bank obligations
- Conduct enterprise risk assessments, regulatory gap analyses, and remediation plans, and support internal and external audits
- Oversee core finance functions – financial controls, settlement and funding flows, reconciliation, and reporting
- Prepare clear compliance and financial reporting for senior leadership, who carry it to the Board – translating regulatory and financial risk into plain-language decisions
- Build a culture of compliance through training, guidance, and cross-functional partnership with operations, product, and partners
You won't be doing it all alone – you'll have external counsel and specialist advisors available for the heavier regulatory lifts (such as RPAA safeguarding legal opinions), so you can focus on owning the program day-to-day.
You'll play a critical role in protecting and shaping the next phase of our growth.
What We're Looking For
- Roughly 4–8 years of experience in regulatory compliance and/or finance within payments, fintech, banking, FX, or money services (MSB/PSP)
- Solid, hands-on knowledge of AML/CTF requirements and FINTRAC reporting
- Familiarity with the Retail Payment Activities Act (RPAA) and Bank of Canada PSP supervision – or the ability to get up to speed quickly
- Experience supporting or running KYC/CDD/EDD processes
- Strong grasp of risk assessments, internal controls, and remediation
- Experience owning and maintaining a company-wide policy framework – keeping policies current, well-documented, and enforced
- An AML/compliance certification such as CAMS (an asset)
- Familiarity with PCI-DSS, card network rules, and the PayFac / payments regulatory environment (an asset)
- Post-secondary education in business, finance, accounting, or a related field – or equivalent hands-on experience
- Excellent analytical skills, sound judgment, and a high standard for confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information
- A self-directed, hands-on owner who's ready to step up and run finance and compliance end-to-end in a high-growth environment, and grow with the company
Location
This is an office-based role (in-person presence is essential).
Why Join SportsPay?
- HIGH-GROWTH FINTECH Be part of a high-growth Canadian fintech company.
- SHAPE THE FUTURE Help define how payments – and compliance – work in amateur sport.
- REAL IMPACT Work closely with leadership and make a real impact.
BENEFITS
- Profit share
- Four weeks' vacation
- Free parking
- Stocked fridge – lunch is on us
- Dedicated education & certification funds to keep your credentials sharp
- Regular off-site team-building events
- Paid days off to volunteer with the SportsPay Foundation
