Full job description
Position Overview
As a Carpenter you are responsible for day-to-day operational tasks at a project site. Key responsibility entails working on diverse tasks to produce safe, efficient, and quality craftmanship that meet the projects scope.
Roles & Responsibilities
· Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements
· Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed
· Build concrete forms, scaffolding, bridges, trestles, tunnels, shelters, towers, and other structures.
· Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
· Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes and in using measuring tools.
· Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials.
· Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment.
· Build foundations and other concrete formed structures, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
· Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding, and hardware.
· Maintain, repair and renovate commercial buildings and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants, schools, parkades, institutional buildings and other establishments.
· Maintain a daily log of tasks and hazard assessment cards.
Required Experience and Education:
· Residential and Commercial Construction: Years of experience depending on level of Journeyman (at least 5 years) to Apprentice (1-4 years)
· Proven work experience in construction management
· In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment and safety guidelines
· Expert knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards
· The ability to stand, crouch and kneel for long periods of time.
· Completion of CSTS, First Aid, Confined Space, Fall Protection, H2S and carpentry or forming experience
· Understanding of all facets of the construction process
· Ability to read drawings, plans and blueprints
· The ability to travel and work flexible shifts, which include weekends, evenings and statutory holidays.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $32.00-$38.00 per hour
