Full job description

RN Infant and Postpartum Night Care Professionals

Location: Calgary,Alberta

Position Type: Contract with overnight shifts

Compensation: Up to $55/HR

We are looking for experienced, caring (RN )nurses to join our team as family night care professionals. If you are an Alberta Registered RN who finds real meaning in caring for newborns their parents, we would love to hear from you. You will care for babies through the night, managing feeds, sleep routines, and infant wellbeing while parents rest and recover. You will also be a steady, knowledgeable presence for the whole family: supporting Mum and Dad through postpartum recovery and bringing calm and reassurance to our client's homes.

We are looking for someone with the clinical skill experience to recognize and respond to anything out of the ordinary, and the warmth to make families feel supported every step of the way.

Who Should Apply

This position is open exclusively to licensed Alberta RN or NP professionals who want to make a genuine difference in the care of newborns and children. Eligible designations:

  • Registered Nurses (RN) who are fully licensed and in good standing with Alberta Provincial regulatory college
  • Nurse Practitioners (NP) with demonstrated maternity or obstetrics scope of practice

The nurses we are hoping to find are those who believe every baby deserves the best possible start in life, who takes pride in independent clinical judgment, and who finds joy in guiding new families through the earliest days.

Mandatory Eligibility Requirements

Please review carefully before applying. Applications that do not meet these requirements will not be considered.

  • Alberta RN license in good standing. No exceptions.
  • Current CRC/VSV
  • Internationally trained RNs must hold current Alberta RN registration and demonstrate Canadian maternity or obstetrics clinical experience. International credentials alone are insufficient.
  • Candidates must have demonstrated, continuous clinical experience after licensing. Please no new graduates.
  • Continuity of practice. Candidates with significant unexplained gaps in their practice history will not be considered.

Required Clinical Experience

Candidates must have verifiable, hands on experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Maternity / Labour and Delivery ward nursing
  • Obstetrics (antepartum, intrapartum, and/or postpartum care)
  • Home visit nursing with a maternal and newborn focus
  • Rural or remote nursing with continuity of patient care across maternity related services

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience across multiple areas above and who have worked in settings requiring independent clinical judgment.

What You Will Do : Independently

  • Provide attentive overnight care, including feeding (breast milk, formula, or bottle support), diapering, soothing, and safe sleep practices
  • Monitor baby's health and wellbeing with a clinical eye, and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Support healthy sleep routines and, when appropriate, gentle sleep conditioning
  • Keep clear overnight logs (feeds, diapers, sleep, observations) to review each morning
  • Maintain a calm, clean, and safe nursery environment

Caring for Our Whole Family

  • Support Mum's postpartum recovery, including physical healing, comfort, rest, and lactation support such as latch guidance, pumping schedules, and supply concerns
  • Offer evidence based guidance and reassurance on newborn care, feeding, and the postpartum period
  • Watch for signs of postpartum mood and adjustment challenges in either parent, offering compassionate support and encouraging follow up with healthcare providers when warranted
  • Help dad build confidence with hands on newborn care
  • Help the whole family, including siblings where present, adjust to life with a newborn and enjoy a restful, peaceful household through the night

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation that reflects your clinical credentials
  • Consistent, predictable overnight scheduling
  • A respectful, appreciative family that values your expertise and the difference you make
