The Opportunity

This Recreation Manager is responsible for delivering Recreation Services to all clients of the facility. This role collaborates on the delivery of client care specifically designed to meet the needs of the client.

What You Will Need

  • Post-secondary education in Recreation Therapy or Therapeutic Recreation.

  • Three or more years in Recreation Therapy experience in a health care facility.

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in program planning, implementation, documentation and evaluation in a senior’s care setting.

  • Excellent in gerontology as an asset.

  • Proficiency in Activity Pro, Point Click Care, RAI-MDS and care planning is an asset.

  • Passion and focus on the person centered approach and working with seniors.

  • Must be able to provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Background Check, or be willing to obtain one.

What You Bring

  • Preliminary identification of the client’s needs and desires for involvement in Recreation Programming.

  • Ensures recreational programming is designed to meet client needs specific to both neighborhood and individual assessment.

  • Prevent escalation of behaviors by anticipating changes and designing appropriate programs.

  • Effectively carry out planned client interventions and present appropriate structured opportunities that promote client participation in Recreation Programming.

  • Recreation interventions will be implemented to assist the client to meet his/her social, emotional, cognitive, and physical health care goals.

  • Ensures programming offered has a therapeutic balance and offers appropriate elements of cognitive stimulation, social interaction, diversional activity, and physical activity.

  • Communicates with other members of the interdisciplinary team to keep them informed of the recreation participation level of the client.

  • Attends multidisciplinary Client Care Plan Reviews on each neighborhood/unit; any necessary changes are discussed and shared with the team.

  • Achieving resident and family satisfaction targets.

  • Ensuring residents participate in multiple events and activities each month.

  • Lead, Manage and motivate recreation staff and volunteers to meet department and legislated objectives.

  • Maintain departmental budget.
