We are Columbia Plastics. A well-established, privately-held, custom injection molding manufacturer, based in Surrey BC that has been in business for 80 years. We make plastics that shape people’s lives! From medical devices, to agricultural products, electronics and consumer goods; we are a recognized industry leader known for our commercialized products made with state-of-the-art technology.

We are seeking a highly skilled Quality Manager to join our team to lead our quality systems and ensure we consistently meet and exceed customer expectations.

Job Summary

The Quality Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 13485, FDA, industry standards, leading audits, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring product quality through all stages of manufacturing. This role serves as the primary liaison between customers, suppliers, and internal teams regarding quality-related issues. This is a hands on role that requires time on the production floor and is not primarily an administrative role.

Duties and responsibilities

Quality Management & Compliance

· Maintain, oversee, and continuously improve the company’s Quality Management System (ISO 9001, ISO 13485, FDA Compliance, or other applicable standards).

· Develop, implement, and revise quality policies, procedures, and documentation.

· Lead internal quality audits and manage external/customer audits and certifications.

Production Quality Oversight

· Ensure all production processes follow established quality standards and meet regulatory requirements.

· Implement and monitor quality controls for raw materials, in-process inspection, and final product quality.

· Lead corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), root-cause analyses, and problem-solving activities.

Leadership & Team Development

· Lead, mentor, and develop the quality team, including Quality Engineer, inspectors and auditors.

· Provide training and support across departments to reinforce a culture of quality.

Customer & Supplier Interface

· Serve as the primary point of contact for customer quality inquiries, complaints, or non-conformances.

· Work with suppliers to ensure material quality, resolve issues, and manage supplier performance.

· Oversee material compliance declarations (REACH, RoHS, Prop 65, etc.) and address customer inquiries.

· Establish and maintain incoming inspection requirements.

Documentation & Reporting

· Maintain accurate quality records, inspection data, certifications, and audit documentation.

· Prepare and present regular quality performance reports, KPIs, and improvement plans to management.

Continuous Improvement & Technical Expertise

· Lead initiatives using tools such as Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, SPC, PFMEA, Control Plans, and other methodologies.

· Advise the management team regarding operation and performance of the QMS and opportunities for improvement

· Drive improvements in scrap reduction, process capability, product consistency, and efficiency.

· Provide technical support in the New Production Introduction process, mold qualification, risk analysis, capability studies, and first article inspections (FAI/PPAP).

· Oversee and coordinate engineering change requests.

· Plan and execute product validation.

Education and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or related field (or equivalent experience).

· 3+ years of experience in quality management in a manufacturing environment (injection molding or plastics experience is a strong asset).

· Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and FDA;

· Proficient in quality tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC).

· Knowledge of VMM programming, Minitab, ERP systems an asset

· Leadership experience with the ability to coach and develop a team.

· Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
