You will coordinate a portfolio of multiple concurrent projects, guiding residents through project planning, funding, permitting, community engagement, implementation, and evaluation while navigating municipal policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.

The Project Coordinator (NDO) meets regularly with senior staff, City Councillors, and leaders of other community organizations to discuss and develop resident-led projects, represent the City's broader interests, and solve issues that arise through their implementation. The role requires significant judgment, relationship-building, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills to balance community priorities with operational, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements.

The role is critical to ensuring the long-term success of LoveMyHood and provides the necessary City support to residents to navigate municipal policies, procedures and legislative requirements to successfully complete a project.

  • Identify project risks, anticipate implementation challenges, and develop practical solutions to support successful project delivery.
  • Coordinate permits, agreements, insurance requirements, approvals, and other compliance processes required to support project implementation.
  • Monitor project performance and outcomes, prepare status updates, and recommend adjustments to support successful project delivery.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Organizational Navigation

  • Maintain stakeholder relationships and facilitate discussions among residents, community organizations, City staff, consultants, contractors, elected officials, and external partners to build consensus, navigate competing interests, and advance projects.
  • Facilitate cross-departmental coordination to navigate approvals, technical reviews, corporate processes, and operational requirements while reducing barriers to resident-led initiatives.
  • Interpret and navigate municipal policies, procedures, legislation, and corporate requirements to identify practical pathways that advance resident-led initiatives while balancing operational, legal, financial, regulatory, and safety considerations.

Community Development & Resident Support

  • Build relationships with residents, neighbourhood groups, community organizations, and volunteers to support resident-led initiatives and strengthen neighbourhood capacity.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and support to community leaders and volunteer groups in areas such as project planning, community engagement, governance, fundraising, and organizational development.
  • Facilitate community engagement activities that encourage participation, build connections, and strengthen neighbourhood capacity.
  • Connect residents and community groups with City services, programs, resources, and partner organizations to help advance neighbourhood priorities.
  • Support the development of resident leadership and long-term community capacity through mentorship and knowledge sharing.

Communications, Engagement, & Representation

  • Develop and deliver communication and engagement plans, in collaboration with Corporate Communications, that promote resident participation and build awareness of community initiatives.
  • Prepare reports, briefing materials, presentations, correspondence, and other communication materials for a variety of audiences.
  • Represent the Neighbourhood Development Office and LoveMyHood at community meetings, public events, workshops, conferences, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Present complex information to diverse audiences and adapt communication approaches to meet the needs of residents, community groups, staff, and decision-makers.
  • Support media inquiries, promotional activities, and public-facing communications related to resident-led initiatives, working with Corporate Communications as required.

Experience

  • Strong community engagement, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to develop practical solutions in complex or evolving situations.
  • Excellent verbal, written, facilitation, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to engage diverse audiences and communicate complex information effectively.
