About White Knight Construction

White Knight Construction is an established Alberta general contractor specializing in commercial construction and tenant improvements.

As we continue to grow, we are looking to add another strong individual to our project management team.

We are open to hiring either:

  • An experienced Project Manager who can independently manage commercial construction projects; or
  • A Junior Project Manager with a strong construction foundation, the right attitude, and the potential to grow into a full Project Manager role.

The position, responsibilities and compensation will be tailored to the experience and capabilities of the successful candidate.

The Position

Our Project Managers are responsible for taking ownership of their projects from turnover through construction and closeout.

This includes managing the project budget, schedule, subcontractors, client relationships, documentation and overall project performance while working closely with our Site Supervisors and Project Coordinators.

We are looking for someone who understands that good project management goes beyond processing paperwork. The successful candidate will be expected to understand the overall health of their projects, identify issues early, communicate proactively and take responsibility for driving projects toward successful completion.

For a Junior Project Manager, we do not expect you to know everything on day one. We do expect you to be organized, accountable, motivated to learn and willing to take on increasing responsibility as your experience develops.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on experience, responsibilities may include:

  • Managing commercial construction and tenant improvement projects from turnover through completion
  • Reviewing project drawings, specifications, contracts and scope requirements
  • Developing and maintaining project schedules
  • Managing project budgets, cost reports and financial performance
  • Preparing, reviewing and managing change orders
  • Coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and clients
  • Working closely with Site Supervisors to maintain schedule, quality and site requirements
  • Working with Project Coordinators on RFIs, submittals, procurement, documentation and project closeout
  • Reviewing subcontractor pricing and assisting with or managing project buyout
  • Identifying scope gaps, schedule risks and potential cost impacts early
  • Managing client communication and maintaining strong professional relationships
  • Leading and participating in project meetings
  • Monitoring procurement and long-lead items
  • Managing deficiencies, turnover and closeout
  • Maintaining accurate and current project documentation
  • Supporting estimating and pre-construction when required
  • Monitoring the overall health and performance of assigned projects
  • Taking ownership of project challenges and driving solutions

Experienced Project Manager Candidates

For candidates applying at the Project Manager level, we are looking for someone who can take ownership of projects with limited oversight.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Approximately 5+ years of commercial construction experience, preferably with a General Contractor
  • Experience independently managing commercial construction projects
  • Strong knowledge of project budgets, forecasting and cost control
  • Experience developing and managing construction schedules
  • Experience managing subcontractors and suppliers
  • Strong ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications
  • Experience managing change orders, RFIs, submittals and project documentation
  • Strong client and consultant communication skills
  • A good understanding of construction contracts and subcontract agreements
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong problem-solving, leadership and decision-making skills

Experience with commercial tenant improvements, renovations and fast-paced projects would be considered a strong asset.

Junior Project Manager Candidates

We are also interested in individuals who may not yet have the experience required to independently manage larger projects but are ready to take the next step in their construction career.

You may currently be working as a:

  • Project Coordinator
  • Assistant Project Manager
  • Junior Project Manager
  • Estimator with project coordination experience
  • Site professional looking to move into project management

Ideally, Junior PM candidates will have approximately 1–3+ years of commercial construction experience and a solid foundational understanding of how construction projects are delivered.

More importantly, we are looking for someone who is motivated to learn, takes responsibility seriously, communicates well and wants to develop into a capable Project Manager.

What We Are Looking For

Regardless of experience level, the right person will:

  • Take ownership of their responsibilities
  • Communicate openly and proactively
  • Be organized and follow through on commitments
  • Address problems rather than wait for them to resolve themselves
  • Work well with Site Supervisors, Project Coordinators, subcontractors and clients
  • Be able to prioritize in a fast-moving construction environment
  • Be willing to ask questions and continue learning
  • Understand the importance of both office and site involvement
  • Take pride in delivering successful projects
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and trades
  • Want to grow with the company and take on increasing responsibility

Education & Qualifications

Education in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology or a related field would be considered an asset.

However, relevant commercial construction experience, ability and attitude will be given significant consideration.

A valid driver's licence and the ability to attend project sites throughout Edmonton and surrounding areas are required.

Compensation

Salary: $70,000–$130,000 per year, depending on experience, demonstrated capabilities and the level of responsibility the successful candidate is prepared to take on.

A developing Junior Project Manager would generally fall toward the lower end of the range, while an experienced Project Manager capable of independently managing multiple commercial projects, clients, schedules and financial performance would be considered toward the upper end.

Additional compensation and benefits will be discussed based on experience and the overall position offered.

Why Join White Knight Construction?

This is an opportunity to join an established commercial contractor while we continue to grow our team and project portfolio.

For an experienced Project Manager, the role offers the opportunity to take ownership of projects, build strong client relationships and play an important part in the continued growth of the company.

For a Junior Project Manager, the role offers direct exposure to all aspects of commercial project management and the opportunity to develop toward independently managing projects.

We believe strongly in providing opportunities for people who demonstrate the ability, attitude and desire to take on greater responsibility.

If you are an experienced Project Manager looking for your next opportunity — or an ambitious construction professional ready to take the next step toward becoming a Project Manager — we would like to hear from you.

Please submit your resume along with a brief introduction outlining your commercial construction experience and the types of projects you have worked on.
