Position Overview

We are seeking a Professional Technologist (P.Tech) with demonstrated experience in 5 kV electrical power systems, protective relays, electrical troubleshooting, and industrial Electrical and instrumentation. This role is hands-on and field-oriented, supporting the safe, reliable operation of medium-voltage electrical and instrumentation systems across industrial tank farm and block valve facilities.

The successful candidate will bring strong diagnostic skills, practical field experience, and sound technical judgment, operating within their approved scope of practice.

Shift: 7 on 7 off Maintenance Schedule

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for 5 kV medium-voltage power distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, motor feeders, and protection systems
  • Perform and oversee protective relay testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and settings verification
  • Troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation issues affecting plant operations, reliability, and safety
  • Support commissioning, maintenance, and fault investigations for electrical and instrumentation systems
  • Review and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, loop diagrams, and single-line diagrams
  • Conduct electrical testing including:
  • Insulation resistance (megger) testing
  • Primary and secondary injection testing
  • Relay functional testing and verification
  • Support instrumentation troubleshooting, including:
  • Field devices (pressure, flow, temperature, level transmitters)
  • Signal verification (4–20 mA, HART, discrete I/O)
  • Control and interlock troubleshooting in coordination with operations
  • Assist with investigations of trips, nuisance alarms, and equipment failures
  • Prepare technical reports, test records, calibration documentation, and as-built drawings
  • Coordinate with maintenance, operations, and project teams during planned and unplanned work

Required Qualifications

  • Professional Technologist (P.Tech) designation (or eligibility) with a recognized provincial association
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with 5 kV or medium-voltage electrical systems
  • Proven experience with protective relays, electrical testing, and troubleshooting
  • Instrumentation experience required, including field device troubleshooting and signal verification
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Medium-voltage switchgear and protection
  • Motor protection and coordination
  • Grounding systems
  • Industrial instrumentation and control fundamentals
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility within a defined technical scope
  • Strong field execution and problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial, utility, pipeline, or heavy process facilities
  • Experience supporting maintenance-driven electrical and instrumentation programs
  • Familiarity with commissioning and brownfield modifications
  • Experience working alongside operations and control room personnel
  • Strong documentation and technical reporting skills
