Full job description

Saltworks Technologies is a leading Canadian cleantech company solving two of the world's most pressing challenges: water sustainability and critical minerals supply. We design and build advanced industrial water treatment and lithium refining systems for global leaders in semiconductors, mining, automotive, and industrial processing.

Saltworks is a 2025 Technology Fast 50 company and EY Entrepreneur of the Year award winner. We lead our industry in adopting and developing AI across our products, projects, and operations. Join us and build skills defining the next era of engineering and industrial systems.

The role:

We are seeking an Intermediate Project Engineer to help lead the successful delivery of complex projects from concept through to completion. In this role, you’ll drive project execution, improve technical processes, and contribute to product quality. You’ll also receive hands-on mentorship from senior leaders and gain valuable leadership experience by supporting junior engineers. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow both technically and professionally.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the full project lifecycle
    • Collaborating with Chemical, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineers to produce work packages for production.
    • Researching and qualifying new vendors and products.
    • Working with suppliers and vendors to design and specify components used within our processes (pumps, valves, motors, filters, etc.).
    • Supporting our internal Supply Chain and Production teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
    • Partnering with the Quality Assurance team to ensure quality control processes are being followed.
    • Assisting with commissioning at our factory and at customers’ sites.
  • Implementing full-scale, repeatable plant designs, with opportunities to contribute to R&D, pilot systems, and new product development.
  • Opportunities to become a subject matter expert, enabling you to expand your technical skills, while also developing project management skills.
  • Representing Saltworks with customers and suppliers, including field visits to both (ability to travel to the USA is essential).
You will be a great fit if you have:
  • A relevant engineering degree and ability to register as a P.Eng. with EGBC.
  • 5-8 years of relevant working experience as an engineer or designer in an industrial setting.
  • A track record of generating engineering deliverables in a fast-paced, industrial environment.
  • Practical knowledge and experience in key engineering areas such as ASME B31.3, pressure piping design, heat exchangers, pumps, and related systems.
This position also requires these universal skill sets:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, maintain a high-quality of work, and quickly adapt to new challenges.
  • Sharp attention to detail and a proactive mindset to meet project deadlines.
  • A positive, can-do attitude with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and pitch in as required.
  • Hands-on tooling and troubleshooting skills (not essential, yet beneficial if you like this type of work).
  • Bonus - Familiarity with SolidWorks 3D design software or AutoCAD P&ID.

Why join Saltworks?

At Saltworks, you'll collaborate with talented colleagues to solve complex, real-world problems – designing and delivering innovative water treatment and lithium refining systems for some of the world's most recognized companies. Every team member contributes meaningfully, from early-stage development through field deployment.

Saltworks is investing intentionally in artificial intelligence for engineering and technical work. Engineering offers one of the longest runways for AI-driven productivity and automation, and Saltworks aims to be at the forefront of this shift. We provide the training, computational capacity, and practical tools needed for engineers and technical professionals to apply AI meaningfully in their work.

We offer:

  • Competitive compensation package, including medical, dental, vision, RRSP matching, life insurance, AD&D coverage, and an education allowance.
  • Culture built on safety, innovation, diversity, and continuous learning.
  • Collaborative, cross-functional team environment where every member contributes to project outcomes.
  • Regular social activities and company events.
