About us:
NOIC Academy is a prestigious private boarding school located in Markham, Ontario, Canada, with a history dating back to 2004. The Academy provides a comprehensive, internationally oriented secondary education experience for both on-campus and online students, supported by a multidisciplinary team of more than 200 faculty and staff, including over 100 educational leaders and certified teachers. NOIC offers a globally recognized academic portfolio encompassing OSSD, IBDP, IGCSE, and A-Level programs, complemented by English-language preparation, university application counselling, and individualized academic planning. Through its integrated one-stop VIP education model, the Academy brings together academic instruction, university preparation, career exploration, and extracurricular development to provide students with a highly personalized educational journey.
Position Summary:
The Vice Principal, designated Principal for OSSD inspection, compliance and accreditation purposes – Onsite Academic, OSSD Accreditation & Pastoral Care and Enrollment - is the senior onsite academic leader responsible for the quality, compliance and day-to-day educational operation of the Markham campus. The role combines OSSD accreditation and Ministry of Education responsibilities with onsite teaching and learning, teacher supervision and development, student pastoral care, and active support for student recruitment and enrolment. The position reports directly to the Head of School and, because there is no separate Principal position, serves as the school's designated Principal for Ontario Ministry of Education purposes.

Primary Responsibilities:
A. OSSD Accreditation, Compliance & School Records
- Serve as the designated Principal and primary academic/compliance lead for Ontario Ministry of Education requirements applicable to the school.
- Lead preparation for OSSD inspections, school evaluation and accreditation/compliance review processes; oversee all Ministry of Education reporting compliance to ensure annual school license.
- Coordinate required documentation, policies, course records, student records and evidence of compliance for all OSSD students, working with relevant academic and administrative colleagues.
- Act as the principal liaison for Ministry inspection and OSSD compliance matters, while keeping the Head of School informed of material issues and required actions.
- Ensure onsite OSSD curriculum delivery, assessment practices, records and school procedures meet applicable requirements.
- Oversee accurate and timely academic records in PowerSchool and other approved school systems.
B. Onsite Teaching & Learning
- Oversee pedagogy planning and onsite OSSD curriculum implementation to ensure appropriate academic quality and student outcomes.
- Oversee onsite university pathway programs, such as Davis University and University of Regina programs to ensure academic quality and student outcomes.
- Hire teaching staff, support teachers in curriculum development, implementation, modification and selection of instructional materials.
- Oversee timetables, class lists, academic schedules and supervision schedules for onsite programs.
- Monitor student academic performance and coordinate interventions, enrichment and academic support where required.
- Teach or provide direct academic support when operationally necessary.
- Support curricular and extracurricular programming that strengthens student engagement, achievement and school culture.
C. Onsite Supervision, Teacher Development & Evaluation
- Lead induction and orientation for new onsite teaching staff.
- Observe classes and evaluate the effectiveness and performance of onsite teaching staff under the school's established evaluation framework.
- Provide coaching, feedback and professional development priorities to improve teaching quality and student achievement.
- Support staffing, substitute coverage and academic workforce planning in coordination with the Head of School.
- Maintain required supervisory records and prepare reports for the Head of School.
- Promote a professional culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement and high expectations.
- Oversee campus and student boarding facilities.
D. Onsite Student Pastoral Care
- Lead onsite student well-being, pastoral care, discipline and character-development systems in collaboration with the counselling team and student service.
- Establish and implement expectations that promote student self-discipline, responsibility, safety and respectful conduct.
- Oversee supervision of students on campus, during school-sponsored activities, trips and other authorized activities.
- Coordinate appropriate support for students' social, emotional and developmental needs with staff, families and relevant external agencies where appropriate.
- Lead or oversee required emergency preparedness procedures, including fire, lockdown, hold-and-secure and evacuation drills.
- Work closely with teachers and student-support staff to identify and respond to academic, behavioral, attendance or well-being concerns.
E. Student Recruitment & Enrolment
- In collaboration with the Director of Marketing and Admission, actively support onsite student recruitment, admissions and enrolment conversion as an academic leader of the school.
- Participate in prospective student and family meetings, interviews, open houses, information sessions and selected recruitment events.
- Help communicate the academic value proposition of the onsite OSSD, IB and A-Level learning environment, as applicable.
- Provide academic input into scholarships, admissions decisions, student placement and program fit.
- Contribute to annual enrolment planning and onsite capacity utilization.
Collaborative Strategic Responsibilities:
- Student recruitment and enrolment strategy: Head of School-led; shared with both Vice Principals and the relevant admissions/recruitment team.
- Marketing and school brand development: Head of School-led, with the Marketing & Admission Director as operating lead; this Vice Principal provides academic, student-experience and program input.
- Partnerships: collaborate with the Head of School, Online Academic Vice Principal and Marketing & Admission Director on universities, schools, community organizations, education associations, agencies and other institutional relationships.
- Markham-Beijing coordination: provide onsite input as needed; overall academic coordination with Beijing is led by the Vice Principal – Online Academic, IBDP & A-Level.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Strong knowledge of Ontario curriculum, OSSD requirements and the operation of Ontario independent schools.
- Degree in Education and appropriate professional qualifications; Ontario teaching qualification is strongly preferred.
- Substantial classroom teaching experience, preferably including at least 10 years in a mainstream or comparable school environment.
- Significant school leadership or supervisory experience, preferably at least 5 years.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise instruction, evaluate teachers, develop staff and improve teaching quality.
- Strong student-centred leadership, judgment, communication, organization and relationship-building skills.
- High command of English at native or bilingual professional level.
