Post-doctoral fellow position in Archaeology and Community-based researchDepartment of Internal Medicine/Anthropology

Responsibilities:
We are looking for a Post-Doctoral Fellow to join our multidisciplinary group (medicine/health, anthropology, archaeology, Inuit, Dene and Cree communities). Together we will explore what role cultural heritage (archaeological sites) can have in land-based healing programs that contribute to wellness and leadership development for Inuit, Dene and Cree youth in northern Manitoba. This project will involve you in a project that will fulfill a need to provide upstream interventions for the health and well-being of northern Inuit, Dene and Cree youth. We will create opportunities for connecting youth with the Land, for decolonizing northern history, for empowering and building/sustaining capacity among the youth, and for instilling Indigenous sovereignty over the Land and the cultural heritage. The post-doctoral fellow will work with and train youth to document archaeological sites in the Churchill, MB area using a variety of methods.Qualifications:
Position RequirementsThis position requires a broadly trained anthropologist (archaeology and community-based research) to work with Inuit, Dene and Cree communities in northern Manitoba and Nunavut.
- PhD degree obtained within the past 5 years
- Archaeological field experience and project management
- Community-based/led research experience
- Willingness to supervise graduate students
Desired skills and experience
- Northern anthropology/archaeology research experience
- Qualitative and ethnographic research skills
- Drone pilot licence and use of Real Time Kinematic (RTK) positioning systems
