We are seeking a safe and self-motivated skilled Plant Operator to join our team, based at our Winvan Paving Asphalt Plant in New Westminster. Your primary responsibility will be to operate the plant efficiently to maximize production while maintaining a safe work environment. You will also support effective teamwork across multiple divisions and contribute to a positive team spirit within the production and dispatch departments. This position will report directly to the Plant Foreman.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Two or more years of experience.
  • Maintenance of a safe driving record and a valid driver’s license.
  • Reliability, strong work ethic, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Follow strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Strong literacy and communication skills.
  • An understanding of basic mathematical calculations to keep time and material records.
  • Active certification or experience operating equipment is an asset.
  • Ability to effectively direct others in the workplace and respond quickly under pressure.
  • Knowledge of computer programs such as outlook, word and excel.
  • Basic knowledge of electricity and mechanics.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe working environment for team members and equipment. Keep a high level of situational awareness and an organized workflow at all times.
  • Control asphalt production through various methods (digital control systems, computer programs, switches, and buttons) to produce high quality hot-mix products.
  • Assist in production planning to meet operational and customer demand. Communicate with operations and dispatch personnel to most effectively utilize the plant to fill orders and maximize sales.
  • Demonstrate technical knowledge of different mix designs, materials used in asphalt production (aggregate, asphalt cement, additives) and an understanding of test results.
  • Coordinate with quality control personnel and equipment operators to ensure high quality asphalt production.
  • Perform daily walk-arounds of the plant and complete daily plant maintenance. Note issues to be tracked for maintenance and assignment. Support troubleshooting of issues, as well as planning and execution of maintenance where necessary.
  • Learn to operate various equipment (front-end loaders, skidsteer loaders, forklifts, excavators) to develop a versatile skillset and provide secondary operational support where necessary.
  • Report any problems to the Plant Foreman, Safety Manager, or Plant Manager
  • Assist in training less-experienced employees on the proper operations, servicing, and repair of the plant to further their abilities.
  • Work within company policies and regulations.
