Full job description

Basic Goodness — Tofino, BC
Full-time | Year-round
$60,000–$65,000/year depending on experience
Shared tips + staff housing available

About Basic Goodness

Basic Goodness is a year-round wood-fired pizzeria in Tofino, on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

We make Neapolitan-style pizza with a long-fermented dough program and a small, disciplined team. At our busiest, we produce 200 + pizzas a night — with a focus on keeping the kitchen organized, collaborative and calm even when the oven is moving fast.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Pizzaiolo / Pizza Cook to work alongside and support our Pizza Lead.

The Role

This is a hands-on position for someone who already has strong pizza experience and wants to continue developing their craft within an established program.

You will work closely with our Pizza Lead across dough production, preparation and service, helping maintain the consistency, rhythm and quality of our pizza program.

Responsibilities

  • Stretch, top and finish pizzas during service to Neapolitan standards
  • Work alongside the Pizza Lead on the wood-fired oven
  • Participate in daily dough production and fermentation
  • Prepare and maintain pizza mise en place
  • Maintain consistency, organization and station rhythm
  • Support opening, closing and daily kitchen systems
  • Work collaboratively with our small kitchen and FOH team
  • Help maintain a calm, efficient kitchen during high-volume service

What We're Looking For

  • Professional Neapolitan-style or wood-fired pizza experience
  • Strong hand-stretching skills
  • Experience with long-fermented dough
  • Understanding of fermentation, time and temperature
  • Experience working in a high-volume kitchen
  • Consistency and attention to detail
  • A calm, collaborative approach to service
  • Genuine interest in continuing to develop your craft

Experience with full dough production — from mixing through fermentation and service — is strongly required.

FoodSafe Level 1 required.

Compensation & Housing

$60,000–$65,000 per year, depending on experience, plus participation in Basic Goodness's shared tip pool.

Staff housing is available in Tofino. Housing terms and cost will be discussed with successful candidates.

Work Authorization

Candidates currently authorized to work in Canada are encouraged to apply.

For an exceptional candidate with the right professional experience, Basic Goodness may consider supporting an employer-specific work permit, including an LMIA where appropriate.

Immigration support is considered individually and is not guaranteed.

How to Apply

Please send a cover letter telling us about yourself, why you are applying to BASIC GOODNESS and why you are drawn to a life in Tofino. Include your resume and a short introduction telling us about your experience with Neapolitan-style pizza, wood-fired ovens and long-fermented dough.

Pay: $60,000.00-$65,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Discounted or free food

Application question(s):

  • How many years of professional Neapolitan-style or wood-fired pizza experience do you have?
  • Have you been responsible for full dough production, from mixing through fermentation? Please briefly describe your experience.
  • Have you recently worked with a strictly wood-fired oven? If yes, for how long?
  • Are you currently legally authorized to work in Canada? If you hold a work permit, please provide the type and expiry date. Candidates requiring employer support may also apply.
