JOB DESCRIPTION
Wave Engineering is an engineering firm with offices in Grande Prairie, Edmonton, Calgary, and Drayton Valley. We collaborate on projects across the oil & gas, industrial, and municipal sectors—fostering innovation, teamwork, and practical problem-solving. We are commitment to creating a supportive and empowering workplace where every team member can thrive.
We are looking for an experienced Intermediate Mechanical Engineer / Technologist to join our team!
As a Mechanical Engineer or Technologist, you will play a key role in the execution of multidisciplinary industrial projects, including mechanical engineering leadership, client coordination, field assessments, and development of practical engineering solutions for both new facilities and brownfield upgrades. Your work will focus on the mechanical engineering execution, piping system design, rotating and static equipment evaluation, and ensuring designs meet performance, safety, and code requirements. Candidates should be comfortable taking ownership of engineering deliverables, coordinating directly with clients and stakeholders, and balancing technical execution with project delivery objectives. If you are driven by solving complex engineering challenges, excel at collaborating across disciplines, and take pride in delivering practical, high-quality solutions, we’d love to have you on the team.
This position may be based in any of the Wave offices, but preference will be given to candidates based in Grande Prairie.

- Provide technical leadership and oversight for engineering deliverables, including design reviews, calculations, drawings, specifications, and procurement support documentation.
- Contribute to project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and execution in collaboration with project managers and discipline leads.
- Perform field assessments, site troubleshooting, constructability reviews, and redline/as-built verification activities.
- Develop and review engineering documents including DBMs, PFDs, P&IDs, line lists, equipment specifications, datasheets, and technical reports.
- Support equipment sizing, selection, and evaluation for rotating and static mechanical equipment systems.
- Mentor junior engineers, designers, and technologists to support technical development and consistent deliverable quality.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of internal engineering standards, procedures, and design practices.

- Strong knowledge of piping systems, valves, fittings, pumps, compressors, and related rotating equipment; familiarity with piping specs & valve class tables.
- Project coordination or project management experience on small to mid-size, multidisciplinary projects.
- Field experience with the ability to independently assess mechanical systems and mark-up drawings for redlines and as-builts.
- Demonstrated ability to independently coordinate and execute multidisciplinary engineering scopes within consulting or industrial project environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple project priorities.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and ability to travel for client meetings or site activities.
- Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
