Job Overview

Reporting to the Quality Control Director, the Vessel Inspector, is an integral part of the ALCO Energy Solutions team. The Vessel Inspector is responsible for overseeing all inspection and quality control activities related to the fabrication of pressure vessels in accordance with ASME Section VIII, Division 1, applicable client specifications, and ABSA regulatory requirements.

This role ensures that ALCO’s responsibilities (as defined in UG‑90.2) are fully executed, including control of fabrication, inspection, testing, documentation, and certification of Code vessels.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead authority ensuring all vessels are fabricated in full compliance with ASME Section VIII, Division 1 requirements.
  • Ensure the organization fulfills its obligations as the Manufacturer, including:

o Control of materials, fabrication, examination, and testing

o Verification that all work meets Code and design requirements prior to release Interface with the Authorized Inspector (ABSA) to ensure required hold points and inspections are completed as outlined on the Travel Sheet.

Inspection and Quality Oversight

  • Material Verification
  • NDE coordination (RT, UT, PT, MT) and acceptable verification
  • Hydrostatic testing and pressure boundary verification
  • Ensure inspection activities align with ITP’s, ASMR Code requirements and client specifications.

Documentation and Data Report Control

  • Oversee preparation, review and completion of all required ASME Data Reports.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness and traceability of:

o Material Test Reports (MTRs)

o Weld maps/logs and NDE records

o Heat treatment charts

o Pressure test documentation

  • Coordinate with authorized inspector for final review and sign-off data reports.

Traceability and Records Control

  • Ensure full material and weld traceability is maintained throughout fabrication.
  • Verify that all required documentation is compiled into turnover packages.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman tradesperson, engineering technologist or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum 2-5 years’ experience in pressure vessel fabrication and inspection.
  • Demonstrated experience working under ASME Section VIII Div. 1.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Experience working with electronic QC systems or document management tools is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills for working with inspectors, clients, and regulators.
  • Ability to enforce procedural compliance and drive quality culture.
  • CWB Level 1, with ASME VIII / IX endorsement, CWB Level 2, API 510 would be an asset.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret vessel drawings.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform job duties that may require sitting, standing and walking for extended periods
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks, including keyboarding, data entry and document handling
  • Ability to bend, crouch, kneel, reach and stretch as required to perform job duties
  • Ability to lift, carry, push or pull items 30lbs in accordance with safe work practices
  • Ability to work in various environments (office, site, warehouse, etc.,) as required by the role
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment or role-specific tools safely
  • Ability to work regular work hours and occasional overtime, as required
