Role

The Automation Sr Analyst/Specialist develops basic and detailed engineering activities for automation projects in an autonomous way, from the initial technical proposal and automation software development to the final implementation, training and project documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Gives technical assistance and software development and hardware selection for automation projects in their different stages. With the appropriate selection of technology to be implemented to improve the safety, comfort and productivity characteristics of the plant
  • Supports project coordinators or other project leaders in the implementation of automation projects, encouraging teamwork
  • Does software development for automation projects following Tenaris procedures and standards
  • Validates conceptual and basic design of automatic sequences (functional description) for automated machines or processes. Using available supporting tools like software simulation
  • Develops standardized solutions for automated sequences in order to optimize implementation time and costs on similar projects
  • Does technical validation on the correct application of standardized solutions for automation projects, for both: Software and Hardware elements
  • Develops commissioning and start up activities for automation projects following all Tenaris safety procedures and local regulations
  • Gives technical support to stabilize and or correct recurrent and chronic problems on automated machines, lines, processes or automated cells
  • Develops software backups and keep archived all relevant documents and developed software for automated solutions
  • Keeps updated on automation techniques and state-of-the-art technologies related to their area of speciality
  • Complies with Tenaris policies, procedures and management standards, and ensures adherence with all laws and regulations to the area which works

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in a relevant technical field (Electrical Engineering, Automation & Robotics, or equivalent).
  • 5–10 years of experience in a similar role or managing related projects.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian manufacturing safety standards and procedures.
  • Experience working in a steel mill or metal manufacturing environment is an asset.
  • Strong expertise in PLC programming, troubleshooting, and system integration using Rockwell Automation platforms (Studio 5000 / Logix 5000, FactoryTalk).
  • Experience with Siemens PLC platforms an asset.
  • Experience with AC and DC motor drives, including configuration, commissioning, and troubleshooting of Rockwell PowerFlex drives and ABB drives (ACS / DCS series).
  • Hands-on experience with ABB industrial robots, including programming (RAPID), commissioning, troubleshooting, and integration with PLC control systems and robotic safety systems.
  • Experience supporting automation system commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting in manufacturing environments, with the ability to diagnose issues across PLCs, drives, robotics, and control networks.
  • Familiarity with machine safety systems and standards, including safety PLCs, light curtains, safety relays, Safe Torque Off (STO), and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to support automation projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) is an asset.

Schedule & Working Conditions:

  • 8-hr Days, with flexibility based on business needs.
  • Work is performed in a steel manufacturing mill.

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $69,000.00 – $114,000,00 annually.

Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on factors such as the candidate’s experience, education, skills, and qualifications, as well as internal equity and market considerations.
