The Nurse Aide at DiAgnosis Centre Inc. is a vital member of our cardiac care support team, responsible for preparing patients for cardiology consultation, and cardiac testing and ensuring their physical comfort, safety, and care before, during, and after the consultation and diagnostic procedures. This role operates within a busy outpatient cardiac care facility and supports cardiologists, sonographers, and technologists in a clinical setting that demands attention to detail, patient sensitivity, and a solid understanding of cardiac diagnostic care workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for cardiology

consultations, echocardiograms, electrocardiograms (ECGs), Holter monitor applications,

ambulatory blood pressure monitor (ABPM) fittings, and cardiac stress tests.

  • Assist patients with changing into examination gowns and provide assistance with

mobility, dressing, grooming, and transfers for elderly or physically limited patients.

  • Safely position and support patients on examination tables during echocardiograms,

ECGs, and other cardiac diagnostic procedures.

  • Measure, record, and document vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen

saturation, temperature, height, and weight before and after diagnostic testing.

  • Prepare patients for cardiac diagnostic procedures by explaining basic test preparation,

verifying identity, and assisting with skin preparation, including shaving or cleaning the

chest for ECG, Holter monitor, or stress test electrode placement.

  • Observe patients before, during, and after cardiac testing for signs of dizziness, chest

discomfort, shortness of breath, or distress, and promptly report abnormal findings to

the supervising physician or cardiac technologist.

  • Respond to patient requests and provide comfort measures during consultations and

diagnostic procedures.

  • Assist physicians, cardiac sonographers, and cardiology technologists during patient

assessments and diagnostic testing by preparing equipment, supplies, and examination

rooms.

  • Apply and remove ambulatory monitoring devices such as Holter monitors and blood

pressure monitors under the direction of authorized clinical staff, and provide patients

with instructions regarding monitor care and activity logs.

  • Clean, disinfect, and prepare examination rooms, echocardiography equipment, ECG

machines, Holter monitors, blood pressure monitors, stretchers, and patient care

equipment according to infection prevention and control standards.

  • Maintain inventory of clinical supplies and ensure examination rooms are adequately

stocked with electrodes, gels, linens, gowns, disinfectants, and other patient care

materials.

  • Transport patients by wheelchair or provide walking assistance to and from waiting

areas, examination rooms, washrooms, and diagnostic testing areas as required.

  • Make examination beds, replace linens, and maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical

environment between patient appointments.

  • Document patient observations, completed procedures, and patient flow information

accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.

  • Assist with patient scheduling workflow by preparing charts, obtaining consent forms,

verifying demographic information, and ensuring diagnostic requisitions are complete.

  • Transport requisitions, reports, and clinical documentation between departments or

referring physician offices while maintaining patient confidentiality.

  • Respond appropriately to medical emergencies by initiating first aid or CPR within

certification and scope of practice until advanced medical assistance is available.

  • Support infection prevention, patient safety, confidentiality, and quality assurance

policies in accordance with clinic and provincial healthcare standards.
