Full job description
Are you passionate about great storytelling, about exploring the issues that matter, about pushing the boundaries in new audiovisual experiences? So are we. As Canada’s public producer and distributor, the National Film Board has been telling the country’s stories and pioneering breakthroughs in virtually every field of audiovisual content since 1939. But to do this, we need a team that truly reflects the richness and diversity of Canada. If you’d like to be a part of this team—and part of the NFB’s incredible legacy—we’d love to hear from you.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Coordinates Human Resources activities related to staffing, onboarding, training, leave management, health and safety and employee movements. Acts as a front-line resource for the organization’s staff with regard to most HR programs. Provides technical and administrative support and acts as a main point of contact for Human Resources programs, processes and information systems (My GCHR and Phoenix).
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates technical and administrative actions related to staffing, leaves of absences, health and safety, and employee movements; communicates directly with the persons concerned, drafts letters and other documents, interprets existing directives, prepares authorization documents and follows up on these.
- Responds to first-level requests for information from internal and external collaborators on HR activities, HR systems’ self-service modules, policies and procedures, and helps find solutions to problematic situations.
- Inputs employee movements into the HR system (My GCHR), ensures they’re integrated into the pay system (Phoenix) and participates in quality assurance checks.
- Works closely with the Finance, studios and other NFB departments and, where applicable, other government agencies, to ensure efficient processing of HR actions.
- Carries out checks to ensure the integrity of administrative processing; performs calculations according to the rules set out in collective agreements or directives in effect, verifies that all required actions are completed.
- Prepares data, reports and documents: letters, ad hoc reports, performance indicators, official languages and labour relations, etc.
- Carries out cyclical HR activities, including drafting and updating standard communications, follow-up and monitoring reports, year-end processes and updating HR documentation.
- Participates in the coordination of employee wellness awareness, training and skills-development initiatives.
- Performs various file-management tasks, including filing and archiving.
REQUIRED TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- College diploma in Accounting, Office Automation, Administration, Human Resources or equivalent.
- Approximately three (3) years’ relevant experience in a similar position within a human resources or administrative group.
- Good knowledge of the Office suite, including Excel at intermediate level, as well as knowledge of human resources information systems such as PeopleSoft.
- Bilingualism in the official languages (French and English), both orally and in writing.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Initiative, resourcefulness, autonomy, ability to learn quickly, attention to detail, discipline and adaptability.
- Excellent ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and a large volume of work.
- Strong sense of organization and priorities.
- Strong customer-service orientation and collaboration.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Analysis, synthesis and problem-solving ability.
