Industrial Instrumentation Technician (6-Month Contract)

Location: Nova Scotia, Canada
Job Type: Full-Time Contract (6 Months)
Schedule: Rotational shift / site-based schedule may apply
Start Date: As soon as possible

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Industrial Instrumentation Technician for a 6-month contract at a mining operation in Nova Scotia. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, calibration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of industrial instrumentation and control systems that support safe and efficient mining operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced instrumentation professional who thrives in a heavy industrial or mining environment and is committed to maintaining high standards of safety, reliability, and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, calibrate, and repair instrumentation and control systems used throughout the mining operation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to transmitters, sensors, analyzers, PLCs, control valves, motor control systems, and associated electrical/instrumentation equipment.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with site maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Diagnose faults using test equipment, schematics, loop drawings, P&IDs, and technical documentation.
  • Support commissioning, shutdowns, equipment upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with company policies, mining regulations, and applicable electrical/instrumentation codes.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, calibration reports, and work order documentation.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3rd year apprentice level or Red Seal certification required
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in an industrial environment; mining, mineral processing, or heavy industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with PLC systems, process control instrumentation, VFDs, control valves, pressure/flow/level instrumentation, and industrial communication networks.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and instrumentation drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to and work at a site-based mining operation in Nova Scotia.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, and shutdown schedules as required.
