Full job description

Muskoka Seniors has been supporting older adults in North Muskoka for more than 35 years. Our programs help seniors remain independent, safe and connected while living in their own homes and communities.

We are looking for a reliable, compassionate and confident Driver to provide door-to-door transportation for older adults throughout Muskoka and to medical appointments in communities including Barrie, Newmarket, Toronto, Parry Sound and North Bay.

This is more than a driving position. Our drivers are often an important part of a client's day, providing safe, respectful transportation and a friendly, reassuring presence along the way.

Position Details

  • Drive a Muskoka Seniors vehicle to transport clients according to scheduled trips
  • Provide safe, courteous door-to-door assistance, including arm assistance when appropriate
  • Assist with walkers, wheelchairs, other mobility devices and grocery bags; this position does not involve client lifting or transfers
  • Transport clients for local errands, shopping, appointments and other day-to-day needs
  • Complete long-distance medical trips when scheduled, which may include waiting while clients attend appointments
  • Communicate with clients and the Muskoka Seniors office regarding trip details, schedule changes and client needs
  • Complete required vehicle safety checks and program documentation
  • Keep the assigned vehicle fueled, clean and ready for service
  • Provide professional, client-focused service while respecting client dignity, independence and confidentiality
  • Follow Muskoka Seniors policies and procedures and applicable health and safety, Highway Traffic Act and MTO requirements

We are looking for a calm, dependable driver who enjoys working independently and interacting with older adults. You are comfortable navigating unfamiliar locations, changing road and weather conditions, highways and busy urban traffic.

You Will Need

  • Valid Ontario Class G driver's license
  • Clean driver's abstract
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
  • First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to complete training provided by Muskoka Seniors
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills
  • Ability to safely lift and manage items up to 20 lbs., including mobility devices and groceries
  • Comfort using a smartphone and navigation apps
  • Experience working with older adults and/or individuals with cognitive or mobility challenges is an asset
  • Previous professional or passenger-driving experience is an asset

Schedule & Travel

This position operates Monday to Friday, with a minimum of 60 hours bi-weekly. Daily start and finish times vary depending on client appointments and scheduled trips.

Transportation may be local within Muskoka or long-distance. Long-distance medical trips can involve extended driving and waiting while a client attends an appointment.

Schedules and assigned trips may change on short notice, so flexibility is an important part of this role.

What We Provide

  • Muskoka Seniors vehicle for scheduled transportation
  • Paid working/driving time
  • Uniform shirts and jackets
  • First Aid/CPR training, if required
  • A role where your work directly helps older adults remain independent and connected to their community

Muskoka Seniors is committed to fostering an inclusive community where everyone, regardless of their background and abilities, feels valued, supported, and empowered. We strive to break down barriers and create opportunities that honour the rights of all individuals to live free from prejudice and exclusion.

While we appreciate all responses, only candidates under consideration will be contacted.
