About the program/department/team
The Research Assistant will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers focused on advancing the understanding of lung diseases, including COPD, asthma, and cystic fibrosis. The team uses advanced technologies such as CT and MRI, along with machine learning, to reveal novel spatial and temporal disease dynamics within the lung, providing insights unattainable through conventional tools.
This position will be in the department of Physics within the Faculty of Science. The department is known for expertise in research at the intersection of physics and medicine. They are also expanding the use of physics tools to solve problems within interconnected, complex systems across a broad range of sectors.
The opportunity
This position is full-time for 1 year with the potential for renewal. Under the supervision of Dr. Miranda Kirby, the Research Assistant’s primary role will be to contribute to collaborative research studies with researchers from Toronto Metropolitan University, St. Michael’s Hospital, the Hospital for Sick Children, University of British Columbia, University of Alberta, McGill, Oregon Health & Science University, Duke University, etc.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Assisting Dr. Kirby with image acquisition protocol development
- Coordinating REB approval and data transfer agreements
- Overseeing data transfer
- Data analysis and measurement curation to transfer to the collaborating sites
- Database management and organization
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
- Coding skills are not required but an asset
- Project management skills
- Highly organized
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Independent
