General Scope

The Site Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment across the Minto Mine Site. Working within a rotational schedule in a remote fly-in/fly-out environment, this role is critical to maintaining safe and reliable electrical infrastructure in support of continuous mining operations. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong trade competency, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary operations and maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems and equipment at the mine site, including motors, control panels, lighting, wiring, generators, and instrumentation.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on electrical equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, manuals, and work orders to complete assigned tasks accurately.
  • Diagnose electrical faults, perform repairs, and replace defective components in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the installation and commissioning of new electrical equipment and upgrades to existing systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and equipment status in accordance with company procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all site safety policies, electrical codes, and regulatory requirements, including lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance personnel, and contractors to coordinate electrical work and minimize downtime.
  • Maintain tools, test equipment, and electrical supplies in good working order.
  • Participate in site safety programs, emergency response procedures, and hazard identification initiatives.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage of tools and materials.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors or management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Journeyperson Electrician certification (Red Seal preferred); Yukon certification or eligibility for inter-provincial endorsement required.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of electrical experience in a mining, industrial, or heavy equipment environment preferred.

Demonstrated experience with industrial motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, and electrical distribution systems is an asset.

  • Mine rescue certification or willingness to obtain is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Yukon occupational health and safety regulations and applicable electrical codes (Canadian Electrical Code) is an asset.
  • Experience in fly-in/fly-out or remote rotational work environments is an asset.
  • First Aid certification (OFA Level 1 minimum; Level 3 preferred).
  • Valid driver's license.

Skills & Key Competencies

Strong knowledge of electrical theory, troubleshooting techniques, and safe work practices, including lockout/tagout and arc flash protocols.

  • Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality, compliant work.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively in a remote setting.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; able to coordinate effectively with operations and maintenance teams.
  • High standard of workplace safety conduct and a proactive approach to hazard identification and risk control.=
