Full job description

Warehouse Shipping/Receiving Supervisor

Location: Milton, ON
Reports To: Warehouse Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 7am to 3:30pm with flexibility

Job Summary

The Warehouse Shipping/Receiving Supervisor is a hands on, boots on the ground leadership role responsible for the direct management and flow of all inbound and outbound activities on the warehouse dock. This is not a desk job, this is a front line role. The successful candidate will spend the vast majority of their time on the floor, leading by example, driving machinery if needed, and physically assisting with the movement of product when required.

This position exercises full authority over dock personnel and operational processes to ensure the on time, accurate, and safe receiving and shipping of product. The Supervisor is empowered to make rapid decisions to optimize labour, door management, and pallet flow. Crucially, this role requires a leader who enforces and adheres to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols without exception.

This role is the central point of command for all dock operations. Key success factors include achieving KPIs for accuracy, labour utilization and maintaining a safe, clean, and disciplined dock environment.

Key Responsibilities

· Lead from the Floor. This role requires a true leader who is physically present on the dock, keeping the team active and maintaining an extremely high level of cleanliness. You must be willing to get your hands dirty, drive machines (forklifts, pallet jacks) and load/unload trucks alongside your team when required.

· Ensure strict adherence to all company SOPs, safety regulations, and Fresh Taste quality standards. You are the guardian of the process and protocols must be followed at all times.

· Directly manage and assign tasks to dock employees, including forklift operators, pallet jack operators, and loaders/unloaders. Step in to operate equipment and move freight as required to meet deadlines.

· Strategically assign and schedule truck doors for inbound and outbound trailers to maximize trailer turns, on time departures, and overall flow. Monitor and manage the flow of pallets throughout the dock, ensuring efficient transfer to and from staging, storage, and trailers.

· Oversee the entire process from trailer arrival to departure, ensuring compliance with customer needs and company standards.

· Review, revise, and create SOPs as required. Ensure all staff are trained on SOPs, safety, and quality standards.

· Conduct daily shift meetings to communicate goals, priorities, and safety updates.

· Manage employee performance, provide constructive feedback, and participate in performance reviews.

· Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, quality, and continuous improvement.

· Ensure the dock area is maintained to high housekeeping standards at all times. Clean, organized, and free of obstructions.

· Continually review dock operations to identify bottlenecks and find solutions to improve efficiency, quality, and flow.

· Collaborate with the Warehouse Manager and other supervisors to align dock activities with overall warehouse goals.

Qualifications & Skills

· 3+ years of experience in a warehouse or distribution center environment, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity.

· Proven experience managing a busy dock, including direct responsibility for personnel, doors, and workflow.

· In depth knowledge of fresh food or produce Shipping and Receiving procedures

· Strong leadership, problem-solving, and superior communication skills (both orally and written).

· Ability to work in a cold, fast-paced, and physically demanding environment.

· Ability to lift 50 lbs and stack pallets as required – a true hands-on leader who is not afraid to "lump" freight.

· Knowledge of food safety standards (e.g., GMPs, HACCP, sanitation protocols).

· Flexibility: Standard Mon–Fri day shift, with the expectation of 1–2 off-shift visits per month minimum to ensure standards are maintained across all shifts.
