ABOUT LUCY MEDIA
Lucy is a Vancouver startup that runs social media for small businesses by text message. An owner texts Lucy a photo, Lucy writes the post in the owner's voice (in English, French, Spanish, Chinese or Vietnamese), and it goes live on Instagram and Facebook when they reply YES. No app, no agency. We introduce Lucy to neighbourhood businesses in person, and that's where you come in.
THE ROLE
You'll visit local shops, cafés, salons and restaurants and introduce them to Lucy. This is not a sales job. You won't be asked to close deals or hit targets. You're a friendly, professional first point of contact: you leave an information card, have a short chat with the owner or manager, and note how it went.
HOW YOUR HOURS WORK (we want to be upfront about this)
- Everyone starts at 2 days a week (10 paid hours, about $290/week before vacation pay).
- After 2–4 weeks we review together and can add days, up to 5 days a week (25 paid hours, about $696/week).
- Extra days are based on reliability and visit quality: showing up as scheduled, completing your route, and keeping good notes. They are never based on how many businesses sign up.
- Once you're past the first review, you can ask to change your days with two weeks' notice.
WHAT A VISIT SOUNDS LIKE
You don't sell. You show Lucy working, live, on our demo Instagram account, then help the owner try it on their own phone. A typical visit:
You: "Hi! Is Maria around? I'm Sam from Lucy Media, a Vancouver company. Got 2 minutes?"
Owner: "Sure, what is it?"
You: "Do you post on Instagram for the shop?"
Owner: "Not really. No time, and I never know what to write."
You: "That's exactly what Lucy is for. Let me show you." (You text Lucy a photo of your coffee from our demo account. A minute later the post preview arrives, you reply YES, and you show Maria the post live on Instagram.)
You: "Now you try. Snap something on the counter and text it to this number."
Owner: (texts a photo of today's pastries)
You: "She's reading it now..." (the sample post arrives) "What do you think?"
Owner: "Huh. That's actually good."
You: "Lucy will take it from here. Your first month is free. Thanks, Maria!"
That's a good visit. You get the full script, answers to common questions, and practice before your first day (see below).
A TYPICAL DAY
- Start at 9:30 AM at the first stop of the day's route.
- Walk a route of about 10–14 businesses, roughly one visit every 20 minutes. Each stop comes with the business name, a map, and the name of the person to ask for.
- After each visit, record a 30-second voice note on your phone (who you spoke with, their interest, any questions). It's typed up for you, so there's no paperwork.
- When you log each visit, the app records the location of that visit. We use this only to confirm routes are walked and to plan the next ones. It is not tracked outside your shift.
- Finish at 2:30 PM.
FITS AROUND SCHOOL HOURS AND FAMILY LIFE
- Hours sit inside a typical school day.
- No work during Winter Break, Spring Break or Pro-D days.
- If something comes up, tell us. You can take the day or end early, and you're paid for the hours you work.
RAIN DAYS
On heavy-rain days we'll give you an indoor route (a shopping centre or covered plaza).
HOW HIRING WORKS (about a week, start to finish)
1. Apply on Indeed with the three short answers below.
2. A 15-minute video call, in the evening or at lunch. We talk about the role and your schedule, then do a 2-minute practice visit: we play a busy café owner and you introduce Lucy using the script we send you beforehand. Nobody expects it to be perfect.
3. An offer, a written contract, and your start date.
YOUR FIRST DAY (a full, paid day, 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM)
- 9:30 – 11:30, training: you text Lucy a photo yourself and see how she works, then go through our online training (how Lucy works, everything she can do, how a shift works, the briefing card you get for every business, the live demo, the visit script and the questions owners ask most, with quizzes) and practise visits with a role-play partner. (Practice is with an AI role-play tool, so you can repeat it as often as you like.)
- 11:30 – 12:00, paid lunch.
- 12:00 – 2:30, your first route, with a team member walking alongside you for company. You lead the visits.
- End of day: a short chat about how it went.
YOUR FIRST WEEKS
- A 15-minute check-in each week to talk about how it's going, adjust routes, and answer your questions.
- After 2–4 weeks: a review together about adding more days.
SUPPORT ON EVERY SHIFT
- Text support during every shift, usually answered within the hour
- Your route, business names, the person to ask for, and the best time to visit, all prepared for you
WHAT YOU GET
- $27.85/hour plus 4% vacation pay
- Paid 30-minute lunch every day
- Statutory holiday pay and paid sick days as provided under the BC Employment Standards Act
- Information cards and branded materials
- A reference letter at the end of the term
ROOM TO GROW
We're a young company with big plans. If Lucy grows the way we're working toward, reps who do great work could move up to 5 days a week, stay on past June 2027, and help open new neighbourhoods and new cities, including training the reps who join after you. We can't promise that today, and we'd rather tell you honestly: this is where we're headed, and we'd like to grow with the people who help us get there.
YOUR SAFETY
You only visit public storefronts during business hours. You can skip any stop and move on, no questions asked.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Clear, confident spoken English and a courteous, professional manner
- You enjoy starting conversations, and you're a good listener
- Reliability: you show up as scheduled and let us know early if you can't
- Neat, business-casual dress
- A smartphone
- Able to get to your route by car, transit or bike
- Retail, hospitality, customer-service or community experience is a plus. No sales experience needed.
BONUS IF YOU SPEAK
Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi, Korean, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Farsi, French, Spanish or another language common in your neighbourhood. Many owners appreciate a hello in their first language.
WE WELCOME EVERYONE
Lucy Media is an equal opportunity employer. If you need an accommodation during the hiring process, just let us know.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- The first 3 months are a probation period.
