D.M. Wills Associates Limited is in search of a Project Designer (Civil Engineering Tech) to join our Dams and Floodplains Group in the Water Resources Department. The ideal candidate will have a background in water resources engineering.
As a member of our Dams and Floodplains Team, this role will focus on the technical aspects of project delivery, including hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, fieldwork preparation and documentation, drafting, GIS, and report preparation. We are looking for someone who thrives on tackling technical challenges and keeps up with advancements in technology and software tools.
Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:
  • Assist with deterministic and statistical hydrological analyses to develop inflow hydrographs and peak flows for hydraulic modeling (i.e., use of HEC-SSP and HEC-HMS).
  • Assist with the development of 1D and 2D hydraulic models (HEC-RAS) for use in floodplain mapping and dam breach studies.
  • Assist with the hydraulic design of water control structures.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, letters, drawings, and maps.
  • Field work, including but not limited to inspections and survey.

Significant Qualifications / Experience
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering.
  • 2 years of relevant experience preferred (new graduates with co-op experience will be considered).
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal floodplain mapping guidelines and standards including:
o Technical Guide - River and Stream Systems: Flooding Hazard Limit (MNR).
o Federal Floodplain Mapping Guidelines (Natural Resources Canada).
o Technical Guidelines for Flood Hazard Mapping (i.e., TRCA).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and GIS software (ArcMap/ArcPro/QGIS) for hydrology studies and floodplain mapping.
  • Experience with Python would be considered an asset.
  • Willingness to travel across Ontario for fieldwork.
  • Ontario G-class driver’s license (or eligible to obtain).
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
