COMMENCING: September 8, 2026
COMPENSATION: Payband 5 $28.37 to $30.49
HOURS: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week
JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Custodian is responsible for maintaining site safety, sanitation, and service in schools
and other divisional buildings The Custodian will assist the Head Custodian with special cleaning projects during school breaks.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
As the Custodian, you will be responsible for:
  • The general cleaning of school/building – maintains the classroom, hallways, washrooms, ancillary spaces and grounds in a
safe and clean conditions.
  • Staff training /interpersonal skills.
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE):
• Completion of Grade 10; completion of Grade 12 is preferred.
  • Valid Power Engineer 5th Class License is preferred.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, Workplace Safety and Health, and building systems is preferred.
  • Completion of Respect In School or equivalent training is required.
  • Minimum of one year or more of related experience (cleaning and or maintenance) is required.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and to exercise sound judgment with the public, school staff and students.
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment and maintain positive working relationships with the
public, administration staff and students.
  • Ability to operate power and manual cleaning equipment and tools.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to coach new employees.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and ensure accuracy of work.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook.
  • Ability to respect confidentiality of workplace.
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance.
  • Ability to read and write in English as well as understand simple instruction, diagrams, and procedures to fix and install
equipment for regular repairs.
  • French may be preferred if a Custodian is required to work alone in a French Immersion School.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Clear report from the Child Abuse Registry.
  • Review and comply with Divisional policies and guidelines.
  • Continued employment is subject to maintaining legal eligibility to work in Canada.
