This position is ideal for an early-career engineer with a strong interest in northern engineering and some experience with permafrost-related investigations and infrastructure. The role will involve a combination of fieldwork, engineering analyses, report preparation, and construction support, providing excellent opportunities for technical growth and professional development.
Key Responsibilities:

- Support drilling, sampling, test pit programs, and installation of geotechnical instrumentation.
- Log soil, rock, and frozen ground samples and maintain detailed field records.
- Compile and interpret geotechnical laboratory and field data.
- Assist in preparing geotechnical reports, engineering assessments, and design recommendations.
- Support foundation, embankment, earthworks, pavement, and slope stability analyses.
- Participate in permafrost characterization studies and monitoring programs.
- Assist in evaluating frost heave, thaw settlement, and other permafrost-related geohazards.
- Conduct site inspections and construction monitoring activities.
- Support proposal preparation, project planning, and technical documentation.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across Canada.
- Adhere to corporate health, safety, and quality requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or eligible for registration with NAPEG.
- 2 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience.
- Some experience with permafrost investigations, cold-regions engineering, or northern infrastructure projects.
- Experience supporting geotechnical field investigations and construction monitoring.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license and willingness to travel to remote project sites.
- Ability to work safely in challenging field environments and remote northern locations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Geological Engineering.
- Experience working in northern Canada, including the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon, or northern provinces.
- Familiarity with permafrost terrain assessment, frozen ground characterization, and thermal monitoring programs.
- Knowledge of frost heave, thaw settlement, thermokarst development, and climate change impacts on infrastructure.
- Experience with geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, SLOPE/W, Seep/W, Settle3, LPile, or equivalent.
- Experience supporting mining, transportation, water, or community infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of northern construction practices and remote logistics.
