Quality Assurance Technician

Inspired - Whole Leaf

Star Produce Ltd. (The Star Group)

Calgary, AB

Wage: $21/hour

Status: Full time, Permanent

Hours/Shifts: 40 hours per week, 5 days per week on a shiftwork basis with 2 days off per week (may not be consecutive days)

Must be available to work all 3 shifts:

5am-1:30pm, 7am-3:30pm, 9am-5:30pm

Inspired produces innovative, fresh and healthy, ready-to-eat items for Canadian retail and Foodservice companies. Our state-of-the-art processing facility, use of premium ingredients, and chef inspired recipes has elevated fresh-cut to the next level. We are a dynamic & forward thinking company looking to expand our current product offering. We will continue to create new Inspired items for the Canadian market.

Focus

The primary focus of the QA Technician is to contribute to food safety and quality of products with focus on monitoring, testing, and inspection of materials, products, and equipment to ensure customer and regulatory requirements are consistently met.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Performs pre-operational inspection in accordance with food safety requirements
  • Performs CCP verifications, incoming material inspections, and in-process product inspections and finished product quality inspections
  • Ensures timely and accurate documentation and records keeping is performed
  • Performs in-house calibration of inspection and monitoring equipment, such as thermometers, scales, etc.
  • Assists with verification and validation activities including new product launch to ensure conformance to customers and compliance to regulatory requirements
  • Conducts shelf-life studies of in-house retention samples
  • Participates in the SQF and CFIA inspections
  • Provides timely feedback to Management on any quality and food safety issues
  • Assists the SQF Practitioner in conducting employee training

Education and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a similar role in a food manufacturing environment is considered an asset

Key Attributes and Skills

  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, listening)
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem solving skills
  • Must be a high-performing team player and be willing to work in a dynamic, growing, fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn in-house software programs
  • Attention to detail and a quick learner

Working Conditions

  • Hours may be irregular and in excess of 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.
  • Work outside ordinary office hours (including weekends and holidays) may be required.
  • Weekend and evening shifts may be required.
