Full job description

VANDENBERG LANDSCAPES | CHILLIWACK, BC | FULL-TIME | HYBRID

Junior Landscape Designer

Build something that lasts. Starting at $55,000/year.

Most landscape companies will hand you a sketch pad and ask you to make things look pretty. We're not most companies.

Vandenberg Landscapes has been building premium outdoor environments in the Fraser Valley for nearly 50 years. Our projects don't just photograph well, they get built to a standard that our clients pass down with their properties. We know the difference between a drawing that wins a project and a drawing that actually builds it. We care deeply about both.

Right now, we're looking for a Junior Landscape Designer to join our design-build team — someone who wants to be where the detail meets the dirt. If you get a quiet satisfaction from a perfectly dimensioned plan, if you notice the thing everyone else missed, and if you want to understand how design actually becomes reality — keep reading.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll work on the technical and production side of our design-build process, bridging the gap between creative vision and construction reality:

  • Get out on site — take measurements, photos, and field notes that become the foundation of our project drawings
  • Transform raw site data into accurate base plans and complete technical drawing packages
  • Build planting plans, drainage plans, and install-facing documents that our crews actually use in the field
  • Manage the critical handoff between our outside designers and our construction team — nothing gets lost
  • Review drawings for completeness, accuracy, and real-world buildability before they hit the ground
  • Own revisions and file organization so the right version is always the only version
  • Create 3D renderings and presentation visuals that help clients see the finished picture
  • Make sure our install teams have exactly what they need to execute at a high standard

Who You Are

We're not hiring a title. We're hiring a person. Here's what we're actually looking for:

  • Detail-obsessed — you notice the discrepancy everyone else walked past
  • Coachable and process-oriented — you want to learn the right way, not just a way
  • You ask good questions before you guess — and you follow through once you have the answer
  • You think about how things will actually be built, not just how they'll look on paper
  • You take genuine pride in work that is accurate, clean, and complete
  • You're early in your career and hungry to grow inside a company that rewards quality

Skills & Experience

We're flexible on background. Strong candidates will bring a mix of the following — you don't need to check every box:

  • CAD proficiency: AutoCAD or DynaScape
  • 3D rendering experience: SketchUp + Lumion, or Structure Studios VIP3D
  • A strong spatial and construction mindset — you can read a site and turn it into a plan
  • Field measurement experience that translates into accurate, buildable drawings
  • Plant knowledge and garden design experience for Pacific Northwest conditions
  • A portfolio that shows technical ability, design judgment, and genuine attention to detail

The Role & Setup

  • $55,000/year starting salary
  • Full-time, hybrid: 2–3 days/week in our Chilliwack office
  • Site visits across the Lower Mainland — a vehicle and valid driver's licence required
  • Ideal candidate is based in the Chilliwack or Abbotsford area, though we're open if you're comfortable with the commute

What We Offer

Beyond the salary, here's what makes this role worth taking:

  • Direct mentorship from our principal designer — you'll learn how high-end landscape design gets sold, built, and refined
  • Real exposure to premium residential design-build work from day one
  • A team with high standards who hold each other to them
  • A company that values ownership, follow-through, and craft — and promotes from within
  • Room to grow your technical and creative abilities inside a company that's been doing this for five decades

How to Apply

Send your resume and a portfolio of relevant work to be considered. Applications without a portfolio will not be reviewed.

We review applications on a rolling basis and will reach out to candidates who are a strong fit. We're not in a rush to fill this seat with the wrong person — we're looking for the right one.

Vandenberg Landscapes — Built on craft. Driven by standard.
