About the Role

North Star Contracting is seeking an experienced Land Manager – Aggregates to lead land acquisition, pit and quarry development, and resource management for our growing civil construction and underground utility operations. This is a key strategic role focused on securing long-term aggregate supply through land acquisition, permitting, and pit development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and acquire land or mineral rights for new aggregate pits and quarries across Alberta
  • Negotiate land purchase agreements, leases, and royalty arrangements
  • Set up and manage crushing operations and land preparations
  • Lead full pit and quarry development, including capital planning, site setup, and equipment procurement
  • Manage environmental assessments, reclamation plans, and regulatory permitting processes
  • Represent the company at land use hearings, public consultations, and municipal meetings
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, Indigenous communities, municipalities, and regulatory bodies
  • Utilize GIS systems to document boundaries, reserves, and development plans
  • Develop budgets and timelines for capital projects related to land acquisition and pit development
  • Provide strategic land-related advice to senior leadership to minimize risks and maximize value
  • Ensure full compliance with Alberta land use, environmental, and mining regulations

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in land management, aggregate resource development, pit/quarry development, or surface rights acquisition
  • Strong knowledge of Alberta regulatory environment (land use, environmental permitting, reclamation, and municipal approvals)
  • Proven track record in land negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and securing permits
  • Experience with GIS systems, mapping tools, and land/resource planning
  • Post-secondary education in Land Management, Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and willingness to travel
