Position Scope:
Position Scope


The Labour and Employee Relations Coordinator plays an important role in supporting labour and employee relations activities across NASI. This position provides day-to-day coordination and support for collective bargaining and pre-job conference activities, grievance and complaint investigations, and conflict resolution, while working closely with line leadership on performance management, staffing, and onboarding matters. The role also supports reporting and analysis related to labour costing, market rates, and workforce metrics.


The successful candidate will have strong organizational and analytical skills, sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential matters, and the ability to build effective working relationships with employees, leadership, and union representatives.

Responsibilities:
What You'll Be Doing

Employee Relations
  • Establish and maintain positive employee relations.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal laws and regulations related to employment standards, human rights, privacy legislation and employment equity.
  • Investigate and resolve complex and sensitive employee relations issues.
  • Prepare and participate in collective bargaining processes and pre-job conference activities.
  • Investigate grievances, employee complaints, and other conflict resolution work.
  • Support line leadership with employee performance management as it relates to attendance, performance, and behavioural expectations.
  • Support the staffing requirements on projects including attracting, retaining, and scheduling of personnel.
  • Support employee onboarding processes as required.
  • Prepare reports and analysis as required, including but not limited to market rates, and labour costing comparisons.
  • Calculate labour costs associated with increases, premiums, benefits, and overtime utilization.
  • Support administrative requirements including employee exit forms, handbook developments and distributions, and project kick off materials.
  • Analyze metrics in support of continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
Talent Management
  • Assist in the development and implementation of talent management initiatives that align with and support the achievement of strategic plans to attract, retain, and develop talent.
  • Identify training needs and coordinate learning and development programs for employees.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and suggest improvements.
  • Off-board employees including preparing termination documents, supporting/coaching managers, updating employee records, and conducting exit interviews.
  • Review and update company policies and procedures as required or on an annual basis.
  • Conduct research and provide recommendations related to retaining, engaging, and developing employees.
  • Lead and support special projects, as required.
  • Ad hoc reporting, as required.
Qualifications:
What Makes You the ONE
  • Two to four years' progressive experience in Human Resources, Labour Relations, or a related field.
  • Experience working in the industrial sector or construction environment would be an asset.
  • University Degree, College Diploma, or equivalent experience in Human Resources.
  • CPHR designation or progress towards CPHR is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of collective bargaining processes, grievance procedures, and labour relations practices.
  • Understanding of employment standards, human rights, and other applicable employment legislation.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to prepare accurate reports, costing analyses, and metrics.
  • Talent and confidence to interact and build relationships with all levels of employees, managers, and union representatives.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office Software, including Excel.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt messaging based on the audience.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and be well organized, detail oriented, and results focused.
  • Sense of urgency and the ability to focus with changing priorities.
  • Service and results oriented; proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to travel as required.

Once onboarded, the following processes will occur:

  • Will receive a call from NASI to set up all required pre-employment testing
  • An email will be sent with all required New Hire Paperwork to be filled out
