Position Summary

The QA/Lab Manager is responsible for ensuring that all products manufactured by Kal Polymers meet customer requirements and company quality standards. This role oversees incoming and outgoing material inspections, production quality, laboratory operations, sample processing, product formulation, and continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the inspection of incoming raw materials and outgoing finished products to ensure they meet specifications.
  • Monitor and maintain product quality throughout the production process.
  • Manage laboratory operations, testing activities, and equipment calibration.
  • Ensure customer, production, and development samples are processed accurately and on time.
  • Develop and optimize product formulations to meet customer requirements.
  • Lead investigations into quality issues and perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using tools such as 5 Whys and Fishbone Diagrams.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurring problems.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Maintain and create quality procedures, records, and compliance with company standards.
  • Train and provide guidance to quality and laboratory personnel.
  • Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, and other departments to improve product quality and operational efficiency.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of quality assurance and quality control principles in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis (RCA), CAPA, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of laboratory testing methods and quality inspection processes.
  • Strong knowledge of ERP system.
  • Knowledge on laboratory equipment calibration process.
  • Expertise with ISO 9001 or other quality management systems.
  • Experience in LEAN Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality documentation systems.

Educational Qualifications and Experience Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Quality Management, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Project Management certification is an asset.
  • Six Sigma certification is an asset.
  • Experience in plastics or polymer manufacturing is an asset.
  • Work experience in a factory/manufacturing environment is a must.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems and auditing practices is an asset.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to walk throughout the plant and laboratory areas frequently.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Working Conditions and Environment

  • Work is performed in a combination of office, laboratory, and manufacturing environments.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, machinery, and varying temperatures in production areas.
  • Occasional overtime may be required to support customer requirements, audits, or quality investigations.
