Full job description

Are you passionate about supporting children, families, and educators while helping lead a high-quality childcare program? If so, we'd love to hear from you!

With over 120 childcare centres across Canada Kids & Company is growing, and we're looking for a dedicated Assistant Director to join our team.

About the Role

Reporting to the Centre Director, the Assistant Director supports the day-to-day operations of the centre while ensuring a safe, engaging, and high-quality learning environment for children.

This is primarily a classroom-based position, with the majority of time spent working directly with children and supporting classroom programming. Administrative and leadership responsibilities are completed in partnership with the Centre Director, typically at the beginning or end of the day, as operational needs require.

This role is ideal for an experienced ECE who enjoys working closely with children while developing their leadership and operational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support children's social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and behavioural development.
  • Implement an Emergent Curriculum that promotes learning through play.
  • Maintain documentation, reporting, and record-keeping.
  • Conduct attendance, health, and safety checks.
  • Collaborate with families and external professionals when required.
  • Support classroom transitions and daily centre operations.
  • Ensure compliance with Nova Scotia licensing regulations and centre standards.
  • Assist the Centre Director with staff and child files, ministry requirements, and administrative duties.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Valid Nova Scotia ECE License, Level 2 or 3.
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 45 lbs.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

What We Offer

  • Comprehensive benefits through Health Association Nova Scotia.
  • CAAT Pension Plan.
  • 35% childcare discount plus 20 complimentary backup childcare days annually.
  • Career growth opportunities within a rapidly expanding organization.
  • Supportive, collaborative, and inclusive work environment.
  • Recognition and appreciation for your contributions.
