Job Posting: Junior Steel Detailer

Location: Calgary, AB (In house)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Department: DRAFTING
Reports To: Detailing Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Steel Detailer to join our structural steel detailing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional looking to develop their skills in structural steel detailing, 3D modeling, and construction documentation.

Working alongside experienced detailers, project managers, and engineers, you will assist in creating shop drawings, erection drawings, and 3D models for a variety of commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and revise structural and miscellaneous steel shop drawings under the guidance of senior detailers.
  • Develop and maintain 3D steel models using Tekla Structures or other detailing software.
  • Review structural and architectural drawings to assist with project detailing.
  • Generate material lists, bills of materials, and project documentation.
  • Assist with drawing revisions and incorporation of engineer and client comments.
  • Coordinate with project managers, shop, and field personnel as needed.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure drawing accuracy and completeness.
  • Participate in training sessions.
  • Maintain project files and drawing records according to company standards.
  • Support the detailing team in meeting project schedules and deadlines.

Qualifications Required

  • Diploma or degree in Drafting Technology, Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • 0–3 years of detailing, drafting, or construction-related experience.
  • Basic understanding of structural steel and construction drawings.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Tekla Structures.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred

  • Experience with Tekla Structures software.
  • Exposure to structural steel fabrication or construction projects.
  • Knowledge of BIM workflows and 3D modeling.
  • Understanding of CISC, CSA, or other industry standards.
  • Co-op or internship experience in drafting, engineering, or construction.
