About Future Buildings

Future Buildings has been successfully designing, manufacturing, selling, and delivering prefabricated buildings for over 40 years. From our head office in Markham, Ontario, we serve customers across Canada and around the world.

As we continue to expand our digital presence, we are seeking a talented WordPress Full Stack Developer to design, develop, maintain, and optimize our website platform. This role will focus on building custom WordPress solutions, improving website performance, supporting infrastructure needs, maintaining website security, and collaborating with internal teams to deliver a secure, scalable, and user-friendly digital experience.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with WordPress development, modern web technologies, database management, performance optimization, and cloud infrastructure concepts. They will play a key role in enhancing our online presence and supporting ongoing digital growth.

Key Responsibilities

Development

  • Build, customize, and maintain WordPress themes and plugins using PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Develop custom post types, taxonomies, and custom fields using ACF/meta fields.
  • Implement responsive, cross-browser front-end designs.
  • Integrate REST API and GraphQL/WPGraphQL solutions for dynamic or headless website features.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve development issues, bugs, and performance challenges.

Infrastructure & Cloud Support (AWS/Terraform)

  • Support WordPress hosting environments and cloud infrastructure.
  • Understand Terraform modules and infrastructure-as-code concepts for AWS resources (EC2/ECS, RDS, S3, CloudFront, ALB, Route53).
  • Work with Terraform configurations through Git workflows and understand staging/production environment processes.
  • Maintain awareness of networking, security groups, IAM roles/policies, autoscaling, load balancing, and CDN concepts.
  • Monitor application health, alerts, and infrastructure performance using tools such as AWS CloudWatch.

Site Management & Optimization

  • Install, configure, and maintain WordPress plugins and themes.
  • Manage database backups, migrations, scaling, and maintenance (RDS/MySQL).
  • Optimize website performance, speed, SEO, and overall user experience.
  • Maintain website security through best practices, including WAF, SSL/TLS, patching, and backups.
  • Troubleshoot deployment issues and performance bottlenecks.

Collaboration

  • Work with designers to implement UI/UX solutions.
  • Collaborate with content and marketing teams to improve CMS structure and workflows.
  • Communicate technical recommendations, infrastructure considerations, and cost impacts to stakeholders.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years of experience developing, maintaining, and optimizing WordPress websites.
  • Strong proficiency in PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WordPress development, and MySQL databases.
  • Experience creating custom WordPress themes, plugins, post types, and CMS solutions.
  • Experience integrating APIs, including REST API and/or GraphQL.
  • Strong understanding of website performance optimization, SEO best practices, caching, CDN technologies, and responsive design.
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services, hosting environments, infrastructure concepts (Terraform considered an asset), and Git-based deployment workflows.
  • Knowledge of website security best practices, including SSL/TLS, backups, updates, and vulnerability prevention.
  • Experience troubleshooting website issues, deployment challenges, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and collaborate effectively with designers, marketing teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting high-traffic websites, WooCommerce, or complex CMS environments is considered an asset.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to take ownership of a growing digital platform.
  • Collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Opportunity to contribute to meaningful website improvements and business growth.

Pay: $75,000.00-$90,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Dental care
  • On-site parking
  • Paid time off
  • Vision care

Application question(s):

  • Question 1: Eliminating Plugins with Custom Code We try to keep our site fast by eliminating unnecessary plugins and writing our own custom code instead. Give a brief example of a functionality you have previously built using native WordPress hooks (actions or filters) in a child theme's functions.php or a custom utility plugin, rather than installing a pre-made third-party plugin.
  • Question 2: Geolocation with WordPress & CloudFront Our WordPress site is hosted on AWS using CloudFront for caching. We need to serve different page content and pricing to visitors based on their physical location. How would you architect this so that our global users see the correct localized content without breaking CloudFront's caching efficiency?
  • Question 3: Staging & Error Handling Imagine you push a code change or plugin update to a staging environment and it causes a White Screen of Death (500 Server Error). What are the first two steps you take to find out what caused the error and restore site access?
