Full job description

We are searching for an engaging, courteous Barista who is passionate about coffee and beverage preparation and education. The Barista is a front-line position responsible for delivering high-quality beverages, friendly customer service, and a welcoming cafe environment at Bugwood Coffee’s Main Street Cafe. This role plays an essential part in representing Bugwood Coffee’s values, maintaining service standards, and creating positive customer experiences.

The Barista works as part of a collaborative team and is responsible for preparing beverages and food items to company standards, supporting daily cafe operations, and contributing to a clean, efficient, and respectful workplace.

To succeed as a barista, you should be committed to providing customers with excellent service. You should be positive, friendly, knowledgeable, and polite.

Barista Responsibilities:

  • Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and timely service to all customers
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for regulars and new guests
  • Handle customer questions and basic concerns professionally, escalating issues to the Cafe Manager when necessary
  • Support a positive customer experience during high-volume service periods
  • Prepare espresso-based drinks, brewed coffee, and other beverages according to Bugwood Coffee standards
  • Steam milk and pull espresso shots to quality and consistency expectations
  • Prepare and serve food items in accordance with food safety guidelines
  • Maintain consistency in drink quality, presentation, and taste
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of coffee origins, processing methods, and brewing techniques
  • Learn and communicate information about menu items, seasonal offerings, and retail products
  • Support customer education by answering questions confidently and accurately
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all cafe areas, including bar, service counters, seating, and back-of-house spaces
  • Follow opening and closing procedures as assigned
  • Support daily operational tasks such as restocking, dishwashing, and waste management
  • Use the POS system accurately for order entry and payment processing
  • Work collaboratively with other baristas and cafe leadership
  • Follow scheduling, attendance, and workplace policies
  • Communicate clearly with team members and managers
  • Accept feedback and participate in training and skill development
  • Follow all food safety, health, and workplace safety standards
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment for staff and customers
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures at all times

Barista Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience in food and beverage preparation or customer service preferred.
  • Training and willingness to continue learning about food and beverage preparation.
  • Exceptional listening and communication skills.
  • Ability to walk, bend, and stand for extended periods.
  • Availability to work around peak hours, early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
  • A polite, engaging personality.
  • Commitment to customer satisfaction and service excellence.
  • Willingness to work as part of a high-energy, efficient team in a fast-paced environment.

Wage: $18.25 starting wage ($24.00-$30.00 when factoring in tips)
