Job description:

About Niik:

Niik Steel (www.niiksteel.com) is a dynamic and growing steel fabricator delivering design, fabrication, and installation services. Our company is growing and is hiring an experienced structural steel Project Coordinator (reporting to the PMO Director) to join our team. The position can be based in North Vancouver, or Nanaimo, BC.

We have many long-serving employees, competitive wages, and excellent benefits. At Niik, we strive to be one of the best workplaces in Western Canada. Culture is everything. We ensure our employees respect each other, respect our clients, and are collaborative in their approach to their daily workflow. You will work alongside and complement our talented technical sales team, engineers, designers, and fabricators/welders. You will have an opportunity to grow your knowledge of project management and fabrication and leverage that knowledge to build strength in steel manufacturing. Niik constantly innovates and contributes to more advanced design and fabrication to exceed client needs.

You’ll be the link between our project managers, detailers, shop, field crews, engineers, and general contractors. You’ll keep information moving, drawings accurate, and changes documented. This role suits someone who understands structural steel, can read a Tekla model and a shop drawing, and knows how a fabrication shop actually runs.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate structural and miscellaneous steel projects from award through detailing, fabrication, delivery, and erection
  • Manage the detailing process with in-house and third-party detailers: issue drawings, track submittals, and check shop and erection drawings against the contract documents
  • Review Tekla models and drawing revisions, and flag discrepancies, clashes, and missing information
  • Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, transmittals, and Supplemental Instruction (SI) responses
  • Do quantity takeoffs from drawing revisions and prepare change order and extra-work documentation in line with contract terms
  • Coordinate with the shop on fabrication sequencing, material ordering, and release priorities
  • Coordinate deliveries and erection sequencing with site crews and GCs
  • Support connection design submittals with the engineer of record and the delegated connection engineer
  • Maintain project schedules, document logs, and records in Procore, Trimble Connect, or client platforms
  • Support quality control documentation, including mill certs, inspection records, and CWB/CSA W47.1 requirements
  • Attend coordination meetings, take minutes, and track action items.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management
  • 10+ years in structural steel: fabrication, detailing, erection, or a steel-focused GC/consultant role
  • Strong working knowledge of Tekla Structures, including model navigation, drawing review, reports, and revision tracking
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu, Trimble Connect, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office (Excel especially)
  • Solid understanding of structural steel shop and erection drawings, connections, and fabrication processes
  • Familiarity with CSA S16, the CISC Code of Standard Practice, and related ASTM/CSA material standards
  • Experience preparing RFIs and change order documentation
  • Strong organization, written communication, and follow-through under deadline pressure

Assets

  • Experience in a structural steel fabrication shop
  • Procore or Aconex experience
  • Estimating or quantity takeoff experience
  • PMP, CAPM, or progress toward a PM certification
  • EIT or AScT designation
  • Knowledge of BC Building Code and CWB requirements

If you are a highly organized individual with a strong background in construction project management, we want to hear from you. Join our team and be part of exciting projects that shape our communities. Apply now!
