Instrumentation & Controls Designer | Industrial Facilities | Edmonton, AB

Capital Engineering is growing and looking for an experienced Instrumentation and Controls Designer to join our Edmonton team. In this role, you will contribute to the design and development of instrumentation and control systems for a variety of industrial projects, working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver practical, high-quality solutions for our clients.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and prepare detailed instrumentation and control system designs for industrial projects, including schematics, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Assist with specifications, material selection, and procurement support for I&C equipment.
  • Collaborate with civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical teams to integrate controls solutions into industrial projects.
  • Perform design reviews, quality checks, and support commissioning activities.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and client requirements.
  • Maintain project documentation and provide technical support throughout project execution.

What We’re Looking For

  • 7+ years of related experience in industrial environments. Field experience is considered an asset.
  • Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience designing instrumentation and control systems for industrial facilities such as oil and gas, mining, oil sands, power generation, or heavy industry.
  • Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and process distributed control systems (DCSs).
  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with industrial safety and reliability requirements.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
