We are an international trading company specializing in the import and distribution of Japanese food and consumer products in Canada.

We are looking for a detail-oriented Import Coordinator to support our import operations, logistics coordination and documentation.

This is a remote independent contractor position with flexible working hours. There is no fixed daily schedule. The role is primarily results- and task-based, with availability required when necessary to coordinate active shipments.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate international and domestic logistics for import shipments
• Communicate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, warehouses and suppliers
• Follow up on shipment schedules, ETAs and delivery status
• Coordinate customs clearance and provide required documentation
• Prepare, organize and verify shipping and import documents
• Follow up on purchase orders and inbound shipments
• Maintain shipment records and internal tracking files
• Identify and follow up on shipment or documentation issues
• Provide general operational support related to import activities

Requirements

• Previous experience in import/export, logistics, freight forwarding, customs brokerage or supply chain coordination
• Familiar with commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading and other shipping documents
• Strong organizational and follow-up skills
• Comfortable communicating with logistics companies, customs brokers and vendors
• Able to work independently and manage multiple shipments simultaneously
• Strong attention to detail
• Good written and spoken English

Preferred Qualifications

The following experience and skills are considered strong assets:

• Ability to communicate in Japanese or Chinese
• Previous experience working in a food import, food distribution, or related company
• Experience in international trade, import/export, or logistics
• Experience in order follow-up, shipment coordination, or merchandising/production follow-up

• Contractor is responsible for managing their own work schedule and completing assigned tasks by required deadlines

Compensation

• CAD $1,500 monthly retainer
• CAD $100 per completed import shipment (typically 6-10 shipments every month)

The monthly retainer covers routine import coordination, documentation, shipment tracking, purchase order follow up and general operational support.

The additional shipment fee applies to each import shipment handled from coordination through customs clearance and delivery.

This is a flexible, results-based contractor role with no fixed daily working hours.

Pay: $20.00-$30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 30.0 per week
