SHIPPER/RECIEVER – Job Description

As a Shipper/Receiver you will have the opportunity to work on world class iconic art and architecture projects. You must be able to thrive in a busy working environment, be a committed team player with the ability to work independently.

The Shipper/Receiver ensures seamless processing of outgoing shipments and incoming items. The successful candidate will understand the impact of this position on other business functions that depend on the accuracy and efficiency of outgoing items. Inventory management and vendor relations with shipping companies are essential functions for this role.

This position may be exposed to elements such as noise, dust, odors, and varying cold/hot temperatures.

Shipments for this role can involve expensive, unique, one of a kind pieces ranging in various sizes and complexity for art and architecture.

Experience with shipping and receiving high value materials and document management.

Experience with International shipping and customs brokers.

Self manage daily duties/responsibilities for the success of the shipping and receiving department.

Qualifications/Required Knowledge & Skills:

- High School Diploma and 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.

- Have working knowledge with all shipping equipment to load and unload high value material.

- Demonstrate competency in operating a forklift, including safe and efficient loading and off loading of trailers/trucks.

- Ability to confidently operate and maneuver truck and trailer combinations in the yard, and delivery environments.

- Must be computer literate with sound working knowledge of database software/word/ Excel/Outlook. Organized document management and commination with the project managers and manufacturing team is required.

- Equipment experience with the following: Overhead crane / Strapping Machine / Staple Gun/ Nail gun.

- Effective English communication skills (written & verbal) are required to understand orders, schedule pick up and deliveries with logistics suppliers, and communicate instructions.

- Working knowledge of WHMIS and OH&S

- General knowledge of basic trade procedures and material (Carpentry, GFRC, Welding & Fabrication, Paint)

- Physically demanding; requires lifting capability of up to 50lbs.

- Must be reliable, dependable and have a good attendance record.

- Valid safety certificates such as: Fall Arrest, WHMIS, First-Aid, Crane Operator Certificate recommended.

- Valid driver's license & own vehicle

- Clean Drivers Abstract a must & Certified forklift ticket (No previous in-house tickets).

Responsibilities as follows, but limited to:

- Manages the shipment and receipt of all products, materials, and supplies.

- Experience with International shipping and customs brokers with documentation such as, International BOL's, Imports/Exports/ CARM.

- Collaborates with Project management and others involved in the shipment and receipt of products.

- Oversees the shipping process and has ability to meet shipping goals and standards.

- Complete estimates/quotes for all required incoming and outgoing shipments.

- Completes billing of Ladings, associated paperwork, tracks, traces and updates the status of shipments.

- Ensure Health & Safety policy and procedures are met.

- Ensure shipping area is clean, clear of hazards, organized and encourage employees within the department to do same

- Assist other department workers when required.

- Perform other duties as required such as keeping fleet vehicles maintained, haul flat decks/trailers, make deliveries, and keep the back yard clean when required.

- Inspect vehicles and trailers mechanical state and perform preventative maintenance.

- Understand the procedures for loading and unloading materials.

Working Environment

- Be able to thrive within a busy working environment to meet scheduled logistics dates.

- Requires the ability to exert physical effort and get your hands dirty.

- Be able to handle a large amount of noise, dust, odors etc.

- Must ensure you are wearing appropriate PPE dictated by the work conditions (indoor and outdoor)

- Be punctual for shifts, flexibility to work overtime and weekends when required.

- Travelling to installs for work both locally and interprovincial.

- Production Manager
