Are you seeking a new and exciting job opportunity? We are looking for an Engineering Technologist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing a variety of technical assignments within the Rail Cars & Shops Department. These assignments would normally be performed in a Carhouse, Shop, Project or an Engineering environment but may also involve field work.
You may be required to transfer into an Engineering Technologist position in another location within the Rail Cars & Shops Department based on operational needs and training/development initiatives.

What You Will Do
You will perform a variety of technical assignments, and this involves the following:
- Developing, writing and maintaining accurate and concise Maintenance, Overhaul, Exchange, Test/Failure, Standard Operating Procedures, Technical Reports, Technical Bulletins and SWIS documents to meet departmental goals and objectives.
- Providing training to staff and union employees on all types of technical procedures.
- Preparing a variety of written reports and correspondence on technical matters related to assignments.
- Conducting quality assurance activities to determine the effectiveness of inspection, repair and overhaul processes; auditing all types of maintenance Procedures to assure conformance and consistency.
- Evaluating concepts and designs for all types of equipment and facilities relative to the operation and maintenance of revenue vehicles.
- Reviewing the relevance and effectiveness of the existing Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and TTC Maintenance Procedures.
- Investigating problems encountered with all types of maintenance procedures and recommending improvements and/or alternatives; analyzing performance and Reliability data and developing recommendations for performance improvement.
- Diagnosing, correcting and eliminating various complex electrical, electronic, mechanical and pneumatic failures of circuits and components on streetcar vehicles or test equipment.
- Conducting performance reviews of all problematic rail vehicles/ sub systems/ fleets and initiating the necessary corrective actions.
- Providing direction and technical supervision to union employees with respect to the diagnosis and repair of all revenue equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Investigating revenue vehicle, sub-systems and components with respect to failure and maintainability deficiencies utilizing the applicable Work Order System data and its methodologies.
- Planning and coordinating the work involved in the performance of tests and in the application of test instrumentation.
- Liaising with and assisting the Vehicle Engineering Department during the review of specifications for existing or new revenue vehicle and equipment.
Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (if applicable and within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.

What Qualifications Do You Bring
- Completion of a post secondary program in the field(s) of Electrical /Electronic or Mechanical Engineering Technology, or the equivalent.
- OACETT certification as an Engineering Technologist considered an asset.
- Good knowledge of engineering design and costing principles, methods and procedures developed through several years of directly related work-experience
- Specific knowledge required, with demonstrated ability, to diagnose and correct faults relating to electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems/components utilized on revenue rail vehicles and associated maintenance equipment.
- Experience, with demonstrated ability, in directing and training staff and union personnel on various aspects of work, such as fault isolation techniques, equipment modifications, project activity and correct procedure performance.
- Experience in developing and delivering effective and engaging in-house technical training programs.
- Excellent technical writing skills to prepare technical documents including maintenance, test/failure, exchange and standard operating procedures, and bulletins.
- Effective organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with supervisory, technical and trades personnel in the carhouses, shops and engineering groups regarding various vehicle maintenance issues, and with representatives of external supply organizations regarding vehicle specifications, modifications and equipment problems.
- Sound judgement that is supported by strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in the use of computers and applications, including MS Office, and digital graphic image manipulation, and familiarity with, or able to quickly learn, the data and methodologies of the Material Management System and rail vehicle work order systems such as the Streetcar/Subway/SRT Maintenance System.
- Required to attend and successfully complete TTC in-house programs related to the work.
