Full job description

About Meraki

Meraki is a group of resource and construction companies operating across BC and Alberta, including logging, forestry, civil construction, and heavy equipment parts and service. Across seven core companies and several partnerships, HR has lived close to the work. We’re now investing in a dedicated HR function and looking for someone who can earn the trust of those teams, build lasting partnerships, and bring the kind of consistency, efficiency, and proactive thinking that help each business run better.

About the Role

Reporting to the VP of Operations, this is a hands-on, relationship-first position for someone who wants to be embedded in the business, knowing the people, understanding the operations, and working closely with leaders every day.

The businesses you'll be supporting have been managing HR alongside everything else they do. Your first job is to understand how each one operates, what their people challenges look like, and where a dedicated HR Partner can make the biggest difference. From there, you'll work in partnership with a People Specialist to assess what HR work should be centralized, build processes to support it, and help leaders across the group hold their teams accountable to consistent expectations.

This is an advisory and delivery role in equal measure. You'll be the person the various businesses call when something HR-related comes up, a difficult conversation, a performance issue, a termination, and you'll come prepared with the guidance, the documentation, and the plan. Much of the transactional work will be supported by the People Specialist, but you'll be setting the standard for quality, ensuring the right things get done, and seeing work through to completion with the business.

What You'll Do

Build trust across the group

  • Develop genuine working relationships with GMs, operations leaders, and administrators across all seven companies
  • Be the first call when something HR-related comes up, and show up ready to help, not just advise
  • Provide clear, practical guidance grounded in BC and Alberta employment law
  • Help GMs and their leadership teams hold their people accountable to the processes and expectations you build together

Lead HR delivery

  • Assess where HR work should be centralized and support the transition thoughtfully and collaboratively
  • Oversee end-to-end recruitment across the companies, with support from the People Specialist
  • Ensure onboarding and offboarding processes are consistent, well-documented, and set employees up for success
  • Draft and finalize employment documentation, offer letters, employment changes, termination packages, ready for leadership to act on
  • Support employee relations matters including performance management, investigations, discipline, and accommodations
  • Ensure the maintenance of accurate HR records across legal entities

Build the infrastructure

  • Develop and implement consistent HR policies, tools, and programs across the group
  • Support compensation planning, and benefits administration across the companies
  • Ensure compliance with employment standards, human rights, OHS, WCB, and privacy legislation in BC and Alberta
  • Partner with payroll teams on HR inputs to support accuracy and compliance

Who You Are

You've worked in resource-based, construction, industrial, or multi-site environments, and you know how to build credibility with people who are running an operation. You're comfortable meeting people where they are, learning how things work before suggesting how they could work better, and building relationships that hold up when things get hard.

You're genuinely energized by knowing people, not just managing a function. You can give sound HR guidance in the morning and roll up your sleeves to get the documentation right in the afternoon. You understand that earning trust in a decentralized business takes time and consistency, and you're good at both.

You are patient enough to build trust, practical enough to get things done, and experienced enough to know when to create accountability.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally in resource, construction, industrial, or multi-site environments
  • 2+ years supporting leaders in an advisory or business partner capacity
  • Experience supporting multiple legal entities or business units is a strong asset
  • Working knowledge of BC and Alberta employment standards, human rights, OHS, and WCB legislation
  • Work Location: This is a remote role based in BC or Alberta. You’ll visit our operations a few times a year.

Sound like the right fit?

If you're looking for a place where hard work matters, opportunities are real, and the people around you know your name and have your back, we'd like to hear from you.

Note: We review every application carefully because finding the right fit matters to us. If your experience aligns with what we're looking for, we'll be in touch within two weeks of your application.

At Meraki, we value people from all backgrounds and experiences. What matters most is how you show up, with curiosity, accountability, respect, and a commitment to safe, quality work.

We are an equal opportunity employer and make all employment decisions based on qualifications, merit, and business needs. We do not discriminate on any grounds protected by applicable law and are committed to providing a respectful, inclusive workplace where people can succeed. Reasonable accommodation is available throughout the recruitment process and employment.

Building a strong team is a shared responsibility. We expect everyone to contribute to a workplace where people support one another, treat each other with respect, follow through, act fairly, and help create a culture where meaningful careers can grow.
