Job Overview

This position is responsible for providing EHS support and training for operations teams, yard, shop/warehouse, field supervisors, field workers in preventing accidents and incidents and minimizing the human and financial impact of these events, for NB branch and project sites. In addition, the position is responsible for providing support in implementing health, safety, and environmental management policies and procedures at the provincial level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Regularly inspect the work activities at different branches across N.B., yards, warehouses, jobsites, plants and offices to maintain a strong safety presence. Help implement and enforce the use of safe work practices and procedures as described in the company policies.
  • Evaluate multiple branches to ensure safety management systems are in place and they are complying with provincial and federal requirements and company policies and procedures (i.e. Perform audits on JSP, the company S.O.S and E.I.S program, and Daily Toolbox Talks, compliance under the Gold Link Safety Recognition program, Work Instruction development and training).
  • Coach employees on working safely. Intervein when unsafe conditions or behaviours are observed. Following company ‘Life Saving Rules’.
  • Conduct in-person H/S required training programs for multiple branches for yard, warehouse, plant, field and office staff.
  • Maintain clear and concise records of all health and safety related training activities, records of training and certifications.
  • Investigate health and safety accidents/incidents/situations/near hits to accurately determine the sequence of events and determine root causes. Help supervisors prepare proper documentation in accordance with company and provincial requirements. Help ensure that accidents/trends/issues/costs are reported to the proper authorities as required.
  • Handle injured worker claims management activities. Analyze and take action on injured worker claims to help manage claims costs, return injured workers to light/full duties, according to the WorkSafeNB regular processes, documentation and regulations.
  • Liaise with internal company departments and external/government agencies as required ( WorkSafeNB, NBCSA, etc.)
  • Conduct the annual fire and emergency plan with the location’s manager.
  • Lead the monthly JHSC Committee meeting for various branches with the location manager, keep up to date records, and take the lead on corrective actions required.
  • Maintain and review Task Safety Analysis (TSA’s) for NB branch and projects in NB.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments (corporate, health and safety leader for Canada, Human Resources, etc.) to ensure all aspects of the BrandSafway health and safety programs are effectively communicated and followed.
  • Set annual safety goals that align with corporate goals and values.

Qualifications

  • OH&S, CRSP or NCSO designation required.
  • Advance knowledge and understanding of current construction and general industry safety regulations and the ability to analyze and interpret this data for the safety of employees, job sites, and the branch.
  • Understand and have extensive knowledge of Federal & Provincial rules and regulations pertaining to safety codes and Occupational Health and Safety rules.
  • Advanced knowledge of assessing training needs, creating training materials and delivering the training.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, evaluate and improve others.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Strong sense of professionalism.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.

This role is critical in maintaining a safe working environment while supporting the successful delivery of construction projects through proactive safety leadership.

Pay: $100,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
