Intent of the process
A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process and used to staff identical or similar positions with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), language profiles, operational requirements, and conditions of employment at the Department of National Defence. EDUCATION:

• A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (see Note 1).

Note:
The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:

• A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
• An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Candidates who already meet both of the following criteria must be accepted as meeting the secondary school diploma requirement:

• Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; and
• Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the GT classification.

The opportunity to be assessed by at least one of the two employer-approved alternatives must be offered to candidates who have not previously met the secondary school diploma requirement. Candidates who were appointed or deployed on an indeterminate basis using an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience meet the secondary school requirement for the GT classification only and must be reassessed for entry to other classifications on the basis of this alternative.

EXPERIENCE:
GT-04 and GT-05:

• Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams
• Experience preparing and analyzing reports and technical documents
• Experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships with partners or stakeholders

GT-05 Only:

• Experience liaising with external organizations
• Experience overseeing operational program activities including planning, coordination or situation management
• Experience providing technical advice and recommendations
• Experience interpreting and ing operational procedures, guidelines and standards

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE:

• Experience working in incident or emergency response
• Experience mentoring or supervising employees
• Experience using the Incident Command System
• Experience using GIS mapping software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, etc
• Experience with Small Craft operations
• Experience providing or developing operational training
• Experience with Environmental Response Operations
• Experience with basic mechanical skills related to the operation and maintenance of equipment such as small engines, generators, pumps, etc.
• Experience working with Indigenous groups and communities
• Experience with conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS - KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the “Canadian Shipping Act”
• Knowledge of the “Wrecked Abandoned and Hazardous Vessels Act”
• Ability to operate equipment such as forklifts, all-terrain vehicles, trucks with trailers, etc.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS

• As means to support our military families and linked with the Department of National Defence priorities, consideration may first be given to the spouses or common-law partners of serving Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members.

Preference will be given to veterans first, followed by Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of jobs located in Nunavut or Yukon. For positions located in Nunavut, qualified Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement will be appointed first. For positions located in Yukon, qualified Yukon First Nations will be appointed first, followed by qualified Indigenous persons.
